Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assisting with field sampling of coastal Maine rivers, including sediment transport measurements, geomorphic surveying, and hydrologic measurements  Utilizing QGIS to measure geomorphic features of rivers  Maintaining and organize field equipment (GPS receivers, survey equipment, hydroacoustic instruments) Utilizing R to analyze geomorphic and hydrologic data  Maintaining well organized data and detailed metadata  Participating in the preparation of manuscripts for publication, including literature review, analysis and graphing of data, as well as summarizing methods and results in text  Compensation, Benefits and Perks: The hourly rate for this position is $26.35 per hour A variety of health insurance plans (Medical, Dental, Vision) Generous Retirement Plan – 10.12% annual compensation contribution (Eligible after 1 year of service and age 26), no match or vesting required Life and Disability Insurance $1,000 Employee Referral Program Bonus Paid Time Off Paid Holidays and Special Days Off Paid Parental Leave (Available after one year of service) Access to many of the College’s facilities including the gym and pool (Including household members) Free fitness and wellness classes And more: https://www.bowdoin.edu/hr/benefits-perks/index.html Education/Skills Requirements Bachelor’s degree in earth and oceanographic science, or a related field (i.e., geology) A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy Fundamental ability to plan, conduct, and analyze experiments with semi-independent supervision (training will be provided by the PI) Working knowledge of QGIS Working knowledge of R Ability to use hydrologic and geomorphic field equipment Strong understanding of conducting remote analyses of rivers Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proactive communication Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer literacy Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents Course-based experience in earth and oceanographic science or related field Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications in this posting to be considered for hire. Standard Work Days and Hours This is a full-time, one-year appointment position working 40 hours per week for 52 weeks per year (1.0 FTE). The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexible hours between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with occasional weekend. No overtime anticipated.
