PRIMARY PURPOSE: Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on District fleet vehicles. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma or GED Valid license/certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of employmentTexas commercial driver’s license (Class B or A) with “P” and “S” endorsements Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to pass Texas Department of Public Safety school bus driver physical exam Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests Must be able to pass criminal history check and MVR driving record check Ability to operate a school bus Proficiently read, write, and communicate verbally in English Experience: One-year experience in auto/truck maintenance and repair, preferred WORKING CONDITIONS: Tools/Equipment Used: Wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; school bus and district vehicles. Posture: Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
