Job SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of the (Market) Manager/Director of Pharmacy or Registered Pharmacist – and according to the standards procedures-dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties. Essential Functions Assists Pharmacist to prepare and dispense medicationMixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and prepares labels for bottlesFills orders with correct medicationsPrepares unit of use dosage when possibleProcesses records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computerPrepares intravenous (IV) packsGenerates required reports; pick i.v., production reportsPerforms backup procedures correctlyRecycles product as appropriateChanges prep and expiration date on recycled product. Dates times and initials all vials for reuse Prioritizes work (i.e. stats made first)Delivers IVS to proper locationsRestocks shelves and rotates stockProperly disposes of non-recyclable solutionsMaintains i.v. refrigerator temperature logReceives and stores incoming suppliesCounts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory recordsReturns medications to stock and rotates stockFills requisitions from Nursing floors in a timely fashionCan calculate appropriate medication doses based on patient’s age Adult and GeriatricsCleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methodsKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsThe ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with clinical staffSelf-motivated, self-directed with excellent organizational skillsAbility to handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyGood math and science skillsGood stress coping skillsMust read, write and speak fluent EnglishMust have good and regular attendanceApproximate percent of time required to travel: 0%Performs other related duties as assignedQualificationsEducationHigh School diploma or equivalentLicenses/CertificationState Certification/Licensure if required by stateExperience Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy setting preferredBasic understanding of the role of and use of a computer in the processing of prescription orders with minimum word processing skills
