Clinical Investigation Technician I BWH Sleep Medicine-(3288129) Description GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:  The Sleep Disorders Research Program is committed to find cutting edge technologies to predict sleep apnea diagnosis and outcome and is paving the way to find pharmacotherapy for sleep apnea. The Sleep Disorder Research Program has considerably advanced the field in the past few years with groundbreaking physiological and pharmaceutical discoveries. At the Lab you will be working on one (or more) of the innovative physiological/pharmaceutical projects conducted by the Principal Investigators. Working closely under the direct supervision of the Lab Manager and/or Principal Investigator, you will coordinate most activities of the research area including but not limited to: performing polysomnographic testing, developing and implementing subject recruitment strategies, making independent judgment of suitability of potential participants for research studies and performing daily activities as research technologists/assistant. Your noteworthy contribution will also appear in the papers that we will send for publication to international journals. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  1. Coordinate the implementation of research studies. 2. Primarily work weekend (Friday through Sunday) evenings/overnight shifts. 3. May work some nights during the week (Monday through Thursday) if there are not enough weekend studies on the schedule (negotiable). 4. Responsible for weekend overnight/evening data collection, validation and quality control. Overnight shifts are assigned weekly with a maximum of 3 per week. 5. Initiates and maintains contact with study participants. May be responsible for subject recruitment, screening volunteers for suitability, scheduling studies with volunteers and staff. May serve as a liaison between subjects and physician. 6. Develops and maintains computer acquisition configurations. Performs / assists with research physiological testing including PSG, EMG, oximetry, etc. 7. Develops, organizes, and maintains the study database and data backups. 8. In conjunction with Lab Manager/Principal Investigator, develops and implements new research protocols including design, data collection systems and institutional review board approval. 9. May assist Lab Manager/ Principal Investigator with preparation for presentations and written published articles. 10. Responsible for ordering supplies, including finding vendors that sell the items. Organize blood samples for storage and for shipment to processing facility. 11. All other duties assigned Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Any BA/BS (Scientific discipline or Psychology preferred). CPR Training preferred. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: o Must possess the ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to research study. o Must have sound interpersonal skills. o Ability to identify technical problems and develop solutions. o Familiarity with Excel, Power Point, and numerous statistical programs. o Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs. o Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks. WORKING CONDITIONS: o Moderate exposure to hazardous / dangerous working conditions. o Variable shifts including day, evening, and night. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  none HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:  Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff.
