Join us.General Summary:We are looking for a Mainframe Developer to build and support the core systems that keep our business running. You’ll work with COBOL, JCL, IMS, DB2, and related tools to design, enhance, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performing applications. As part of an Agile team, you’ll collaborate with technical leads and cross-functional partners to deliver solutions that drive business value and improve the customer experience.What You Bring:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience6+ years of software development experience, ideally in a Scrum/Agile environment7+ years of hands-on mainframe development experienceStrong skills in COBOL, JCL, IMS, DB2, VSAM, and TSO/ISPFExperience with source control tools (SCLM, Endeavor, Changeman, Git)Familiarity with debugging tools (Abend-AID, Expeditor, File-AID, DumpMaster, Insync, TraceMaster). BTS is a plusSolid understanding of SDLC and test-driven developmentStrong problem-solving skills and attention to downstream impactsExcellent communication and collaboration skillsPassion for delivering high-quality solutions that delight customersWhat You’ll Do:Design, build, and maintain critical mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and IMSLead development efforts and mentor junior engineersCollaborate with analysts, testers, and cross-functional teams to turn business needs into scalable solutionsOptimize programs for performance and reliabilityParticipate in code reviews, testing, and troubleshooting across environmentsEnsure solutions meet architecture standards and are secure, scalable, and maintainableSupport deployments and upgrades in partnership with DevOps and infrastructure teamsStay current with third-party and cloud technologies, and help evaluate buy vs. build decisionsContribute to Agile ceremonies, backlog grooming, and sprint planningHelp shape coding standards, tools, and processes with architects and principal engineersActively mentor team members and foster a culture of continuous improvementFocus on delivering business value and improving the customer experienceLead the design and implementation of new features and enhancements across the application portfolioEnsure technical solutions meet performance, fault tolerance, and scalability standardsCollaborate with architects and principal engineers on frameworks, tooling, and coding practicesParticipate in sizing, estimation, and sprint planning activitiesMaintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with standardsEvaluate the impacts of new product releases and coordinate implementationWork closely with UX designers, business analysts, and test engineers to ensure smooth deliveryContribute to innovation by suggesting process and technology improvementsSupport production stability and performance in collaboration with support teamsThink with the end customer in mind, always aiming to improve their experience#LI-TS1IN1Our company is built on helping individuals and families, and this starts with our employees. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.$89,400.00-$183,500.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
