Histology technologists prepare very thin slices of human tissue and stain the tissue sections so that the pathologists can analyze those sections through a microscope. Histology technologists play a crucial role in allowing medical professionals to determine the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses/diseases.Position SummaryHistology Technologist to work in the Histology Laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology in the Department of Pathology; with light, or no, direct supervision, processes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue specimens in a high volume patient care lab utilizing tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers and coverslippers; processes, cuts and stains formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples for patient diagnosis; prepares and changes reagents and properly disposes chemical wastes; sorts, delivers and files slides and blocks; assists with ordering, receiving, labeling, and stocking incoming supplies and reagents; assists with quality control and quality assurance record keeping; assists in training personnel as needed; completes and organizes paperwork; assists with maintenance of equipment; other duties as assigned.Job RequirementsAssociate Degree and one year of histology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
