POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Principal, a short-term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing academic instruction in an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for children in TK/K through 8th grade while the primary teacher is off site. The short-term Substitute Teacher ensures the program is supportive of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum, executing the lessons as prepared by the primary teacher’s lesson plans assisting with the needs of students, and supports learning by creating an atmosphere where students are active and engaged. The term of a short-term Substitute Teacher is no more than ten (10) consecutive school days for the same classroom or course at one school location.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned): ● Implementing the teacher’s lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students. ● Overseeing classroom routines and procedures. ● Collaborating with lead teachers, assistant teachers, and school administrators. ● Collecting and organizing assignments. ● Managing the classroom to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning atmosphere. ● Supervising students both inside and outside the classroom. ● Following the schedule assigned by the principal. ● Respecting all school policies and regulations at all times. ● Maintaining school standards for cleanliness and tidiness for the classroom and work area. ● Preparing a report of each day’s activities for the teacher. REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: ● Excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills. ● Self-motivated, results-oriented, detailed-oriented, and reliable. ● Able to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with principal, pastor, parents, staff, diocesan departments, and the general public. ● Able to manage moderate-to-high levels of stress ● Ability to work independently and with a sense of immediacy. ● Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external). ● Ethical and discreet team player. THIS POSITION SUPERVISES (OTHERS): Children QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: ● Bachelor’s degree ● Previous experience implementing educational programming and working with students as a teacher or instructional aide. Physical Demands: ● Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, stretching, twisting ● Can operate standard office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, personal computer, telephone, and alarm system ● Can lift 25 lbs. in compliance with safety standards. ● Level of vision, hearing, speaking required Other Requirements: ● May be required to work before and/or after school schedule. ● Must have an understanding and acceptance for the mission of the Catholic Church. ● Must support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and its mission and act as a Minister of the Faith. Salary Range: Substitute compensation is consistent across all schools (see chart of daily rates) Short-Term daily rate Long-Term daily rate Full Day: DSJ-retired teacher $ 250 $ 300 Full Day: all others $ 225 Minimum Day: DSJ-retired teacher $ 167 $ 200 Minimum Day: all others $ 150
