Collection System Operator II / Collection System Operator III(Maintenance/Vac Truck Operator)Job Announcement No: 25-026 (repost 24-138)Vacant Position(s): 1Department: Wastewater CollectionNOTE: IF YOU PREVIOUSLY APPLIED FOR THE CSO II/CSO III (24-138) JOB ANNOUNCEMENT, YOU DO NOT NEED TO REAPPLY FOR THIS POSITION.Applications Accepted UNTIL POSITION IS FILLED.Salary Range: $45,760.00 ($22.00) - $59,654.40 ($28.68)$1500 HIRING BONUSNew hires receive $750 in their first payroll check and the balance of $750 at the successful completion of their six (6) month orientation period.The benefit will be taxed; however, associates will receive the face value of the bonus.Recipients are required to sign a promissory note for repayment of the bonus if they leave CWS prior to completion of their initial six (6) month orientation period.   (Not able to stack CDL Bonus with Hiring Bonus.)Hiring Bonus:  $3,000 (If valid CDL Class A is held at time of hire)Grade: 105 / 106Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Position Summary:  Utilizes mechanical cleaning equipment to clean sewer lines to relieve stoppages, prepare sewer lines for televising, clean sewer manholes, clean sewer pump station wet wells and clean sewer system vortexes. Essential Functions:Operates motor vehicles.Utilizes cleaning nozzles and equipment for mainline cleaning, removal of debris and for relief of blockages.Vacuums debris from exit points, i.e., manholes, excavations, wet wells, etc.Uses high-pressure sprayers to clean manholes, wet wells, etc.Performs routine preventative and corrective maintenance on vehicles and equipment requiring a basic knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, mechanical systems and hydraulics.Utilizes GIS and grid maps to locate and document work to be done.Completes work tickets showing jobs completed, hours worked, and follow-up necessary.Sets-up traffic control to conform to Highway Department requirements.May be required to work during emergency conditions.Regular attendance is required.Job performance must conform to all CWS policies and procedures.Specific knowledge of CWS Environmental Management System policy and procedures. Additional DutiesMay be required to cross-train in the operation of backhoes, trackhoes, bobcats and similar heavy equipment.May work as part of the closed-circuit televising (CCTV) crew.May work in the capacity of a Collection System Operator II.May be required to supervise crews on a daily basis.Subject to 24-hour on-call.Perform other duties as assigned.   Physical Requirements, Activities, and Working ConditionsAbility to operate and maintain motor vehicles.Constantly positions self to move, traverse in the field as necessary to perform required work.Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine distinctions in sound, such as when making adjustments on equipment.Must be able to make visual observations in daylight and night.Considerable movement and traversing involved at work sites on unpaved streets, uneven ground and cluttered work areas.Routinely ascend/descend a ladder to climb in and out of excavations.Routinely ascend/descend into manhole to accesses approximately two feet in diameter and depths of up to twenty feet.Constantly works in internal / external environmental conditions.Subject to noise levels requiring the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Hearing Protection Required.Routinely positions self to use up to 50 lbs of force. Daily move and transport equipment and/or materials at job sites weighing up to 50 lbs. Objects greater than 50 lbs require a two-person operation.Subject to vibrations. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities of whole body.Routinely and safely operate computer to include desktop and tough notebook laptops in the field.Must be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functions.Depending on Qualifications, you may be hired at the levels below:Collection System Operator IISalary Range: $45,760.00 (22.00/hr.) - $59,654.40 ($28.68/hr.)*Hiring Bonus: $3,000 (*If valid CDL is held at time of hire)($1500 at time of hire, $1500 after 6-month orientation) Education and/or ExperienceThe candidate demonstrating the following abilities may be placed at a Grade 105:Two (2) years’ experience in wastewater collection, utility work, pipefitting, plumbing, construction, manufacturing, and/or general maintenance preferred. High school diploma or GED required.General knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems preferred, ability to diagnose and replace or repair worn or defective parts.Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness. Licenses, Certifications, RegistrationsAbility to obtain a “D” wastewater collection systems operator’s license in the state of South Carolina within two years of hire.Valid South Carolina Driver’s License required. Collection System Operator IIISalary Range: $45,760.00 (22.00/hr.) - $59,654.40 ($28.68/hr.)*Hiring Bonus: $3,000 (*If valid CDL is held at time of hire)($1500 at time of hire, $1500 after 6-month orientation) Education and/or ExperienceThe candidate demonstrating the following abilities may be placed at a Grade 106:Two (2) years’ experience in wastewater collection, utility work, pipefitting, plumbing, construction, manufacturing, and/or general maintenance required.
