Job DescriptionWe’re expanding our Civil Engineering practice in Seattle and seeking a Civil Engineering Discipline Manager to lead technical excellence, drive growth, and mentor a high-performing team. This is a pivotal leadership role with strategic influence, client ownership, and potential pathway to Principal/ownership (subject to company policies) in a well-established multi-discipline office. As a Civil Engineering Discipline Manager at Coffman Engineers’ Seattle Office, you will be part of a collaborative, creative, and high-performing team that believes in making a difference for our clients and our communities. The Civil Engineering Department Manager will set the vision and oversee the operations, business development, and project execution for the Civil Engineering Department. This role involves technical leadership, staff development, and client relationship management to ensure high-quality project delivery and team performance. Key responsibilities will include:Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, designers, and technical staffOversee workload distribution, staffing decisions, and employee performance evaluationsFoster a collaborative and high-performance work cultureManage civil engineering projects from inception to completion, maintaining quality, schedule, and budget adherenceProvide technical oversight and quality control for designs, reports, and deliverablesServe as a subject matter expert in civil engineering design, regulatory compliance, and industry best practicesIdentify and pursue business opportunitiesDevelop and maintain relationships with clients, municipalities, and key stakeholdersLead proposal development, contract negotiations, and project scope discussionsDevelop and manage department budgets, revenue forecasts, and financial performanceOversee efficient resource allocation and utilization within the departmentMonitor project profitability and implement process improvements as neededWork with other managers and leadership to contribute to company initiatives, risk management, and office successThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer (PE) registration requiredRegistration in Washington (or ability to obtain within 6 months)Registration in Oregon preferred.Minimum of 12 years of progressive civil engineering site development and management experience including the following: Preparing fee and qualifications-based proposalsManaging multiple, concurrent projectsLeading design team effortsSuccessfully managing project budgets and schedulesInterfacing with a multi-discipline design teamMentoring junior staffClient managementTechnical experience with hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, technical studies, mapping documents, preparation and processing of civil construction documents, and earthwork calculationsStormwater experience in Western Washington strongly preferredSpecification preparation experienceExcellent communication, client service, and team leadership skills.Ability to foster long term client relationshipsBusiness development experience, interest and the ability to help win and grow work. Preferred QualificationsPrior management experienceExperience coordinating with a multi-discipline design team is strongly preferredExperience collaborating with local architectural/engineering community is a strongly preferredExperience in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Microsoft office and other softwareProject experience in Industrial, Federal, and Alternative Energy / Energy Storage markets strongly preferredExperience designing public utilitiesExperience serving as a prime consultantExperience with zoning entitlements and permit procurementAbility to work with counterparts in other Coffman offices to share workload when requiredExperience with managing day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectationsExperience attending and participating in local professional organizationsExperience with Energy Storage Systems Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesMust be a self-starter, persistent, and follow through in a consistent mannerPassionate about the client or pursuit and takes ownership of his/her workAble to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environmentPossess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilitiesMaintain positive working relationships with internal and external customersStrong understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures and basic marketing principlesStrong organizational ability; detail oriented; high degree of accuracyMust work well under pressurePositive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and moraleExcellent time management skillsAbility to provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work productAbility to work with counterparts in other offices to share workload when requiredA positive, can-do attitudeExpected annual salary of $140,000 - $200,000.Additional InformationWhy You Want To Work HereCoffman Engineers is a company that truly focuses on its employees.
