Laboratory Instrumentation and Calibration Specialist

The Laboratory Instrumentation and Calibration Specialist is responsible for the oversight of all the laboratory testing equipment. The calibration specialist is the focal point for the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor for technical expertise associated with testing equipment associated with standard operating procedures in strict compliance with industry standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities• Maintaining the equipment inventory• Requesting reference materials and references standards needed to support equipment calibration.• Calibrating, servicing, verifying, and maintaining laboratory instruments including GC, GCMS, ICP, AAS, andspectrometers, etc.• Preparation of corresponding reports regarding calibration and maintenance.• Analyzing routine and quality control samples, when needed.• Training technicians on calibrations, equipment use and maintenance.• Coordinating with the Laboratory Manager/Supervisor on any/all new projects that need to be addressed.• Maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory work area.• Completing required safety training and necessary certifications.• Preparing chemical solutions according to applicable standards or work instructions.• Mandatory attendance for periodic safety meetings.• Performing other laboratory related duties as required and assigned.• Reports to Laboratory Manager and Assistant Laboratory Manager.Required Skills-High School diploma or equivalent, some college credits preferable, and 1+ years’ experience performingpetroleum testing and/or equipment maintenance-Must possess basic computer and mathematics skills-Must demonstrate the ability to grasp new procedures quickly and implement them-Must communicate effectively with employees, outside consultants, and management-Must possess a thorough understanding of industry related safety and training Working ConditionsWork is primarily performed in a laboratory with some time in office. The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. AmSpec Services provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment in an effort to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of those materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical RequirementsSafety Sensitive position that requires pre-employment, random and annual drug and alcohol testing (including marijuana testing). Ability to stand for long periods of time. Pass a drug and alcohol test specified by AmSpec, Pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness and Respirator Fit Test, Pass a physical examination by a physician designated by AmSpec Services, both before employment and at any time during employment upon request of AmSpec Services to confirm the employee’s ability to perform the essential job functions of the position. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry boxes weighing up to 45lbs.
