Description: Position Summary: The Office of Communications is dedicated to disseminating important news, critical information, and compelling stories about New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) to families, students, educators, staff, and all New Yorkers. Using multiple media platforms, the office keeps audiences informed and inspired by developing trusted resources and delivering them in a consistent, approachable, and engaging manner. The Communications Office is responsible for the important work of fast, accurate, and responsive communication and engagement with school leadership, Central offices, parents, students, and other key stakeholders throughout the city. The NYCPS Office of Communications is looking for aDigital Media Copywriter and Project Specialist with excellent writing skills and robust project coordination capabilities. Under the direction of the Director of Digital Media, Communications Office, theDigital Media Copywriter and Project Specialist will assist in maintaining production workflows,developing a two-way dialogue with the NYCPS’s constituents using tools like X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and more, and as well as assist with the public-facing website, blog, and live webcasts. The Digital Media Copywriter and Project Specialist will also assist the Senior Director of Media Production in coordinating new multimedia projects, tracking productions, and assisting in allocating resources accordingly so that projects stay on task and on time. The Digital Media Copywriter and Project Specialist will assist the Director of Digital Media to develop the NYCPS campaign written messaging to the public, promote and support public agency events online, as well as integrate education messaging into existing agency communications channels. The Digital Media Copywriter and Project Specialist will assist in content development for the NYCPS’s digital communications channels and platforms (including website, blog, social media, and email); track and report social and digital media content and metrics to help better inform the department’s decision making across projects; assist in setting and executing social media and digital content calendar for the agency, including the development, tracking, and organization of related content and assets. Performs related work. Reports to: Director of Digital Media, Office of Communications Direct Reports: N/A Key Relationships: Press Secretary, Director of Marketing and Deputy Director of Digital Media. Responsibilities Draft live tweets from events to reach a broader audience of communities, schools, and families. Monitor all ongoing production projects for the comms team including videos, photo captures, social tool kits, and any other deliverables; track milestones and ensure timely completion. Serve as a point person for multimedia productions, creating, tracking and maintaining production calendars on a daily basis. Enter tasks into Project Management Software for team members based on production needs and timelines in consultation with the Director. Develop and create comprehensive toolkits containing sample social media posting language and social media graphics for internal and external community partners. Track the team’s editorial calendars for all agency social media outlets and ensure projects stay on deadline. Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics for social media channels. Develop and track KPIs for projects to gain a measure of success. Schedule and coordinate quarterly analytics meeting to report on how content is performing. Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather relevant information and insights for toolkit content. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with NYCPS brand voice in all toolkit materials. Produce engaging and informative copy for NYCPS’ social media channels, including posts, captions, and announcements that is informative to schools and families. Tailor messaging to different platforms and audiences while maintaining brand integrity. Keep abreast of education trends, news, and relevant topics to infuse timely and relevant content. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, external partners, community organizations, and vendors to facilitate smooth project execution. Collect feedback from stakeholders and iterate on toolkit content and social media copy as needed. Maintain productive relationships with agency staff for the purpose of obtaining information of interest to the public; develop social media accounts and spaces. Coordinate an “Editorial Calendar” across all agency communications teams to ensure strategic alignment. Contribute to strategic planning for social media campaigns, ensuring consistent messaging and impact. Qualification Requirements: Minimum A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above. Preferred Demonstrates the ability to create compelling and concise copy for various digital platforms, including social media channels. Experience with project tracking software such as Asana, Trello, Basecamp, etc. Experience working with elected officials and New York City government officials. Familiarity with tailoring messaging to different audiences while maintaining brand consistency. Knowledge of, and work experience with, education policy. Proven track record in overseeing multifaceted projects from inception to completion. Familiarity with the NYCPS system. Knowledge and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications. Experience managing timelines, resources, and deliverables to meet deadlines effectively. Bilingual (Spanish or Chinese). Proficiency in social media platforms, trends, and best practices. Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders. Meticulous proofreading and editing skills. Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written. Experienced and compelling public speaker and presenter. Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detail. Flexibility, creativity and ability to work well under pressure. Salary: $82,000 - $90,000 (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
