Job Summary

This position is responsible for the effective and efficient housekeeping of school buildings and selected administration buildings in the division.

Duties and Responsibilities

Establishes and evaluates stringent cleanliness standards for all buildings. Monitors and evaluates custodial staff. Trains and updates the custodial staff on the Hazard Communication Standard, Bloodborne Pathogen, Asbestos, and ADA Laws annually. Establishes and maintains Standard Custodial Practices, Methods and Procedures for all schools within the Division. Informs the Director Supervisor of Building Security and Services and principals of the schools of the level of cleanliness and condition of the schools at all times. Inspects buildings monthly to determine the level of cleanliness, insure proper routine cleaning procedures and methods are being followed and to evaluate the effectiveness of procedures. Selects, tests, demonstrates and purchases custodial supplies and equipment for use within the division. Maintains working stock of supplies and adequate operational equipment in all schools at all times. Oversees the professional development of the Custodial staff to insure proper training in all aspects of Custodial Services, personal conduct, safety on the job, and training requirements by law, OSHA, ADA, etc. Coordinates central custodial staff work assignments. Budgets for and maintains replacement schedule of custodial tools, equipment and vehicles. Develops and implements routine daily cleaning tasks and frequency schedules within each school. Interviews and selects new employees and replacement personnel for all locations under the coordinator ' s supervision. Conducts performance evaluations of Custodial Supervisors and Head Custodians, monitors and reviews all custodial evaluations. Conducts client surveys, assesses available resources, and establishes stringent cleanliness standards for all buildings. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Bachelor ' s degree in Facilities Administration, Business Administration, or other related field preferred and minimum of three years' experience in the supervision of custodial employees, or a combination of these factors. Must have a good driving record. Within 90 days of employment, must meet requirements for and receive a commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Virginia. Knowledge of the Hazard Communication Standards, Asbestos and Blood-borne Pathogens Laws and the American Disabilities Act. Good communication skills. Must work well with people. Must develop excellent relationship with building principals and head custodians. Good mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of reasonable custodial work/task standards. Training in recent housekeeping techniques preferred. Ability to use computer software programs, including ability to develop and/or use inventory/work order distribution systems centrally and at building level.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Frequent deadlines, changing priorities. Frequent walking, stair climbing, standing, stooping, some lifting and carrying of weights up to 50 pounds. The environment may expose the employee to potentially hazardous cleaning substances. Employee may be required to drive in inclement weather when necessary. Flexible hours are essential for this position and the Coordinator is on 24-hour emergency on call status.
