Veterinary Technician

As a Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech, you will play a crucial role in the hospital by assisting veterinarians in diagnosing and treating animals while ensuring they have a comfortable and positive experience. Your work will directly impact the health and well-being of our patients, and you will also work alongside a team that is committed to providing excellent service to both clients and pets.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include: As a Veterinary Technician / Vet Tech with Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Triage and Patient Assessment:
- Perform initial patient assessments, including evaluating vital signs and overall health status.
- Assist with triaging emergency cases to prioritize care based on severity.
- Venipuncture & Blood Draws:
- Proficiently perform venipuncture for blood draws in both routine and emergency cases.
- Handle lab samples accurately and ensure timely processing for diagnostics.
- Hospitalization & Patient Care:
- Manage hospitalized patients, monitoring their condition and providing necessary treatments under the supervision of the veterinarian.
- Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Perform patient rounds to ensure comfort and proper care.
- Surgical Assistance & Anesthesia Monitoring:
- Assist in surgeries, including prepping surgical sites, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgeries and assist with recovery.
- Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging:
- Perform radiographs and assist in interpreting results alongside the veterinary team.
- Maintain radiology equipment and ensure quality imaging.
- Cytology & Laboratory Work:
- Prepare and examine cytology slides (e.g., skin scrapings, ear cytology) for lab analysis.
- Assist in conducting laboratory tests (urinalysis, hematology, etc.) and process samples accordingly.
- Dental Care:
- Provide assistance in basic dental procedures, including scaling, polishing, and charting dental conditions.
- Educate clients on dental care and preventive practices for their pets.
- Client Education & Communication:
- Educate pet owners about medical conditions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
- Provide high-level customer service by answering client inquiries with empathy and professionalism.
- Team Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with veterinarians and support staff to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior staff or new veterinary technicians.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical, hospital, or emergency setting.
- Experience in triage, venipuncture, surgical assistance, radiology, and dental care is preferred.
- Familiarity with veterinary equipment such as anesthesia machines, radiology systems, and laboratory tools.
- Strong diagnostic and critical thinking skills to assist in patient care and treatment plans.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Education:
- A degree from an accredited veterinary technology program is required.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) is highly preferred, though not required.
