Postdoctoral Associate, Epidemiology and Environmental Health

Position Summary The (EEH) invites applications for four Postdoctoral Associate positions to join our dynamic team of faculty and staff. Position 1 Working with , EEH Associate Professor, the postdoctoral associate will contribute to research projects related to exposure to environmental pollution (., ambient air pollution, benzene, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) and adult chronic diseases, including cancer and non-cancer outcomes (., chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The primary responsibilities of the candidate with be to collaborate with Dr. Bonner on analyzing traditional prospective cohort and molecular/biomarker data, publishing peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, and presenting results at scientific conferences. In addition, there will be opportunities to develop independent research projects and contribute to grant writing efforts. Position 2 Working with , EEH Assistant Professor, the postdoctoral associate will work on research projects at the intersection of African immigrant health and global health, with a focus on HIV prevention, health disparities, and the socio-structural determinants of health. Research areas include, but are not limited to, digital health interventions and implementation science approaches to improving health equity. Other areas of research supported include the intersection of migration, policy, and health, as well as community-engaged strategies for improving HIV prevention and care among African immigrants and other global populations. Primary responsibilities include supporting ongoing research efforts, directing students and trainees in the research lab, managing and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data, and contributing to manuscript and grant writing. The postdoctoral associate will also present research findings at scientific conferences and have opportunities to engage in international collaborations and community-based research initiatives. Position 3Working with , EEH Assistant Professor, the postdoctoral associate will work on research projects pertaining to environmental risk factors (., air pollution, heatwave, endocrine disrupting chemicals) on maternal and children’s biological aging and early life cardiometabolic health, as well as exploring potential mechanisms such as epigenome, mitochondrial function, and metabolomics. The postdoctoral associate will receive training on data analysis with advanced statistical approaches, publishing high-impact journal articles, successful grant writing, and career development. The candidate will be expected to manage and analyze existing data, work as part of a functional team, write manuscripts and present research results at scientific conferences. Depending on interest, the candidate may also participate in an ongoing clinical trial of post-partum hypertension and depression. Position 4 – Division of Health Services Policy and PracticeWorking with , EEH Assistant Professor, (HSPP), the postdoctoral associate will work on research projects across multiple social determinants of health, all rooted in community based participatory research and many involving community health workers (CHWs). This will range from developing and assessing CHW involvement in diabetes prevention and management, kidney transplantation access, school health and wellness, and/or maternal/child health. It will also more broadly involve establishing and assessing processes to structure CHWs into research teams as equal partners, contributing to all phases of research to ensure community relevance. Primary responsibilities include supporting ongoing research efforts as well as developing independent research projects and grant writing and directing students and trainees assisting with research. The candidate will be expected to manage and analyze existing data, identify additional sources of data, work as a part of a functional team, write manuscripts, and present research results in both community spaces and at scientific conferences. The postdoctoral associate will also be given the opportunity to pursue independent lines of inquiry related to community-engaged health equity research. FOR ALL POSITIONSThe postdoctoral associates should be self-motivated, creative, productive, and organized. Successful candidates should possess advanced expertise in statistical programming languages such as SAS, Stata and/or R. There is funding available for these positions for up to two years, however, the appointment will be reviewed and renewed on an annual basis. These are in-person positions, and candidates will be expected to be physically present at the University at Buffalo for the duration of the appointment. Minimum Qualifications A doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DDS, PharmD, in a public health discipline or a related field. Preferred Qualifications PhD in quantitative public health field (., health services, epidemiology or biostatistics) preferred. Candidates from the social sciences with strong quantitative skills (., economics, political science, sociology) and an interest in health-related research will also be considered.
