Job Profile SummaryUnder general direction, the purpose of the job is to support students holistically following first term enrollment through graduation. Additionally, this job supports students with defining and clarifying their educational and career goals. Employees in this job classification utilize a case management approach in assessing students' academic levels, guiding students through the career exploration process and facilitating the development of academic plans. Analyzes transcript evaluations for entry and exit from the college. Assesses student needs and makes appropriate referrals for student support services. Maintains appropriate records. Performs related work as directed.Minimum Education:Master's degree required. Preferably in Counseling, Social Work or Education.Minimum Experience/Training:Four years of relevant experience.Essential Functions:Daily - 25%: Provides academic and career advising to students utilizing case management approach. Provides holistic advising to include in-depth intake interviews, short and long term goal development, follow-up and outreach to students requiring additional support with clarifying their educational and career goals.Daily - 10%: Collaborates with administrators, faculty and staff in assigned pathways to support student success. Resolves student issues and problems relating to advising such as curriculum and course prerequisites.Daily - 10%: Reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to a specific college or program including unofficial evaluation of transfer credits and applicability of academic credit to program requirements.Daily - 10%: Monitors and communicates with students in their assigned caseload for academic progress, success, retention, early alert referrals and to ensure deadlines are met for completing various coursework requirements, graduation and other specific program requirements.Daily - 5%: Assists with training and/or assisting new advisors with regard to college policy and regulations applicable to program requirements.Weekly - 5%: Conducts/facilitates career and group advising sessions for students in their assigned caseload as applicable.Quarterly - 5%: Identifies and delivers strategies for students to enhance the student experience and contribute to improved retention and graduation rates for Broward College students. Collaborates with all areas of Broward College to support a positive, engaged student experience. Reviews caseload of students to determine if there are registration barriers (e.g. financial hold etc.) to the opening of each term’s registration period, communicates with students and departments as needed to resolve barriers prior to registration.Weekly - 5%: Facilitates students through the career exploration process using a variety of career assessment tools. Facilitates the development of academic plans based on students’ educational and career goals using the applicable technology.Quarterly - 5%: Serves on college and campus committees, task forces, working groups. May serve as a Club advisor to a student organization club; serves as liaison to a campus academic department and assigned pathway. Serves on search committees.Daily - 10%: Responds to email/telephone inquiries from students, staff, faculty and administrators related to advising registration, graduation, transfer information and other BC policies and procedures.Weekly - 5%: Processes electronic transient forms through the FACTS.org system. Reviews student academic history to determine qualification for enrollment in requested transient course work in accordance with current BC policies.Daily - 5%: Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in area of specialization and general knowledge of related areas in the CollegeAbility to perform complex administrative analysis with only general supervisionStrong diagnostic, analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent coordination and communication skills used appropriately influence the decision-making of individuals and groups at all levels in the CollegeAbility to plan and manage own work flow, priorities and results accomplishmentRequires the ability to present and disseminate data to various levelsRequires advanced knowledge of computerized systems and operating environments i.e. Microsoft Office Products and specialized computer systemsAbility to interact and effectively communicate with employee and student populations Our Culture – At Broward College, our leaders embody a culture of competence, care, character, composure, and courage.
