Nurs-Student Affairs and Alumni Relations-Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh-(The University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing is seeking a qualified Academic Advisor for their undergraduate BSN and ABSN programs. The BSN/ABSN Academic Advisor will split their time between advising for traditional BSN undergraduate students as well as admission, enrollment and advising of Accelerated BSN (ABSN) students. The incumbent provides comprehensive academic advising to all undergraduates within the School. The position advises and assists students in academic decision-making and related activities, helping to facilitate a successful academic transition from high school to college and student success through the entire college career. The Academic Advisor will help students identify academic and career goals and assist with appropriate course selection and degree planning. Academic advisors connect students to helpful resources and services and monitor degree progress. The incumbent will review transcripts and applications of prospective students to the ABSN program; liaise with the ABSN Program Coordinator to make admission decisions; plan and implement ABSN New Student Orientation each semester; provide comprehensive advising to ABSN students. In order to deliver a high level of student service within dynamic and changing environments, academic advisors continually build on a foundation of advising theory and practice. The Academic Advisor may participate in and assist with the planning and implementation of unit and/or University-sponsored activities, including, but not limited to: retention and outreach efforts, internal working groups/committees, new and continuing student programs, graduation review, onboarding programs for new students, and remediation efforts for students experiencing academic difficulties. Academic advisors use various software packages and platforms to fulfill these responsibilities and must be able to adapt to new technologies without sacrificing quality. Academic Advisors must be committed advocates for a diverse student body and successfully build and foster inclusive relationships with students and colleagues. This position requires patience, flexibility, energy, and a sincere desire to assist students. Excellent organization, communication skills, timeliness, cooperation, collaboration, and accuracy are essential. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous demands, inclusive of balancing a sizeable caseload of students with administrative, creative, and/or project driven responsibilities. An ability to understand and appreciate the perspectives of various communities, including communities of color, is a must. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience in skilled record-keeping with strict attention to detail. The incumbent will be responsible for entering student information into records databases, post prerequisite coursework onto student transcripts, and assist with recruitment events and information sessions. A thorough understanding of University policies and procedures and the nature and structure of academic degree requirements (Pitt or otherwise); proficiency with student information systems – specific familiarity with PeopleSoft a plus; an ability to interpret and use degree audits; excellent written and verbal communications skills, time management, conflict management, and ability to build rapport and trust is required.We seek a positive, conscientious, student-centered individual to help prepare students for lives of impact by connecting them with educational experiences tailored to their specific goals and needs. Monitors student performance and resolves student issues with the implementation of academic resources and/or programs.Coordinates advising programs such as peer advising, career placement, internships, or other college programs. Serves on appropriate department, School, and/or campus advisor committees. Collaborates across departments on campus referrals when appropriate.Provides information and statistical analysis to School and University units, such as enrollment statistics and student achievement. Analyzes data and prepares reports as appropriate.Develops and oversees advising functions, applies specialized knowledge, and may assist in the training of new academic advisors and support staff.Models the core values of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Academic Advisor.Reports incidents of sexual harassment/misconduct to the University Title IX Coordinator.Physical EffortPrimarily sedentary.
