CAPITOL REGION EDUCATION COUNCIL POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Infant/Toddler Teacher Program: Child Day Care (CDC) Summary Description:  This position is responsible for operating a safe, diverse and developmentally appropriate classroom in accordance with all local, state and federal requirements. In partnership with colleagues and building management, applicants must be willing to work as part of a team to ensure all academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of children from 6 weeks to 3 years of age are met.This position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating child development experiences and for creating a classroom environment where children can develop through play by getting on their level and helping them discover new things. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works collaboratively with the Teacher Assistant to care for eight children age 6 weeks to three years old. Provides care, age-appropriate instruction, activities, and supervision of infants and toddlers in accordance with program goals and curriculum. Must be organized and detail oriented. Ensures the constant supervision, safety and health of children under his/her care while providing a comprehensive child development experience; may need to run after children to keep them safe. Works together with families to develop the skills necessary for school readiness of the children. Carries out activities on a daily basis and evaluate the effectiveness of child development experiences. Plans individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth Carries out goals, policies, and activities outlined in the OEC licensing standards. Complies with child welfare regulations. Maintains regular communication with parents/guardians, including written documentation and personal contact.  Plans and ensures completion of screening, lesson plans, documentation, and anecdotal observations within a required timeframe. Plans, develops and implements individual education plan if needed. Responds quickly to children’s different and personal needs (verbal and non-verbal cues), temperament styles, abilities, and cultures. Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping, and transitioning between activities, and others. Maintains appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards. Responsible for the order, arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom. Plans and arranges for the acquisition and optimum use of all necessary teaching materials. Keeps the classroom in order and the equipment and supplies in good condition. Understands children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. Observes children to detect signs of illness, injury, abuse, neglect, or other special need, and report these signs immediately to supervisor. communicates efficiently in order to meet the needs of the children; effectually guides Teacher Assistants, and works collaboratively to resolve parental concerns. Maintains confidentiality, only discussing personal information with the appropriate individuals. Ensure all center policies and regulations are met and classroom environments adhere to Anti-Bias standards; ensure CREC Core values, Mission and Vision are upheld. Participates in professional development and other required trainings. Composes and reviews emails and utilizes Outlook calendar. Interacts in a positive and encouraging manner; Leads by example and encourages teaching team’s success through modeling and coaching. Believes in having fun; Is always learning, growing, and striving to be better. Qualifications Child Development Associate (CDA) plus 12 ECE credits as evaluated by CT Charts-A-Course. Must maintain Qualified Staff Member (QSM) status as governed by the Office of Early Childhood. Must be willing to advance education if requirements increase. At least one-year experience working in an ECE group care setting. A strong understanding of child development First Aid, CPR/AED certificate from an approved course by Office of Early Childhood prior to start date or completed during the first 90 days of employment. Experience working with children and family of diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds. High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) to foster a team environment Ability to speak/understand Spanish a plus. Strong oral and written communication skills. Must clear full background check and must pass health screening. Working Conditions Ability to lift/carry young children, up to 50 lbs. Ability to take frequent walks, bend, stoop, stretch, squat, kneel, push, pull, crawl and sit on low chairs as part of child care work environment. Must be able to talk to and hear voices at many levels. Ability to detect unsafe situations by sight or sound and react quickly to intervene The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
