Clinical Assist/Assoc Professor in Large Animal Ambulatory Practice

Departmental needs. The ideal candidate would be willing to enthusiastically embrace first opinion large animal cases (equine, small ruminant, bovine, camelid, and pet pig). Expertise and comfort with equine routine/preventative care and emergencies and willingness to provide veterinary care to other large animal species is required. Expertise, interest, and/or advanced training in an area of practice that would complement the current team is considered highly advantageous. The successful candidate should have an interest in promoting the diverse caseload and augmenting the services offered to best serve the teaching and service needs of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Service to clients is an integral part of hospital duties. All faculty are expected to participate in scholarly activity related to clinical service and teaching, but establishing an independent research program is not expected. Collaborative research is encouraged as is development of continuing education programs to veterinarians and the public.The employment starting date for the successful candidate is negotiable but targeted for Late Summer/Early Fall 5. Additional Requirements To be considered for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine; have 2 years post-DVM experience in large animal practice. To be considered for the rank of Clinical Associate Professor, candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine; have a minimum of 7 years post-DVM experience (at the time of appointment); and be board certified in a relevant discipline or have an exception as noted below. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification The successful candidate is expected to obtain and maintain a valid Georgia veterinary license as well as eligibility for a State of Georgia driver’s license. Candidates with and without board certification in a relevant discipline are encouraged to apply. Candidates without board certifications should have expertise in primary care large animal practice and/or accomplishments that compensate for, or make irrelevant, the lack of board certification. Additionally, it is advantageous if the applicant has expertisein clinical, laboratory, and didactic teaching of veterinary students. Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Teaching responsibility met through clinical and preclinical teaching of veterinary students as well as supervision of interns and residents. Teaching the Farm Animal Practice Rotation accounts for roughly -% EFT. Preclinical teaching accounts for the remaining teaching EFT. Percentage Of Time Duties/Responsibilities Research responsibilities met through original research studies focused on areas relevant to equine podiatry, equine lameness and imaging. Consistent involvement with 1-2 studies per year producing abstracts for presentation and scholarly publications. Percentage Of Time Duties/Responsibilities Service responsibilities met through clinical service to the teaching hospital (as for teaching -% EFT) in combination with other service activities including involvement with state and national farrier associations, search committees for faculty positions, authoring book chapters about areas of expertise.
