Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Interpretation and Education Member to assist Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's Interpretation & Education program, including education and public programs and summer day camp partnered with the YMCA. *Interpretation here does not mean language translation, but helping the public understand and connect with the natural and cultural resources and recreation opportunities of the park For more information about ACE, please visit our website Start Date: March 15, 2026End Date: October 17, 2026 (or 31 weeks after start date) Location: Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in Atlanta, GA.Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is "an ancient river in a modern city," and offers many opportunities to get outdoors, including hiking, kayaking, and fishing. The park includes 48 miles of river, one Visitor Center, and 15 land units with hiking, mountain biking, fishing, boat ramps, and Ranger programs, running from Buford Dam in the north suburbs down to Peachtree Creek on Atlanta's northwest side. It is also the first National Water Trail. The park serves approximately 3 million visitors a year, making it consistently in the top 30 most-visited National Parks and a great place to introduce a broad public to outdoor enjoyment and the National Park Service. Park headquarters and housing is just north of Atlanta, Georgia, near the interstate, MARTA train and busses, and basic amenities (grocery store, retail shopping, post office, etc.). At close to 6.5 million people, the Atlanta metro area is the 8th-largest in the United States and is a thriving, cosmopolitan business and cultural center. The park's location on the northern outskirts of Atlanta creates the unusual opportunity to work in a nature-based National Park with access to everything a large city offers. For more information regarding Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, please visit the NPS websitePosition Overview: The purpose of this position is to support public education, engagement, and enjoyment of this National Park Service site while provide a fulfilling developmental experience for the member, whereby they gain a greater knowledge of the park and its resources, learn valuable skills, network with various non-profit, municipal, state, and federal resource and education organizations, and learn about conservation careers and employment opportunities. As a result of this experience, the member will gain additional program facilitation skills, knowledge of environmental education/interpretation best practices, professional development training, public speaking skills, and an opportunity to connect Atlanta's youth to a National Park. The position promotes understanding and enjoyment of park resources through environmental education and public recreation and interpretation activities. Duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:Develop environmental and historical education/interpretive programs under the direction of park staff.Support and lead various education programs during the spring/fall school year and summer camps.Coordinate with YMCA partners to facilitate summer camp programming and park representation.Participate in creating and leading programs and special events for the community at large.Participate on park social media and web team to develop content and target outreach.Special projects in alignment with intern interests, skills, and park needs.This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.Schedule: 40 hours per week with frequent weekend work.Position BenefitsLiving Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $650/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.Housing: ACE members will be accommodated in provided housing at no cost for the duration of the term.Travel Allowance: ACE members will have access up to (NTE) $350 in reimbursable funds to be used for eligible travel expenses. Distribution of funds will need to be approved by the site lead prior to reimbursement. Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service and 640 hours of service. If the duration of a PLC-eligible term is not long enough for Members to accrue 640 hours of service (~16 weeks), the total hours served at the completion of the term may be eligible to be combined with hours accrued from another PLC-eligible term to meet the 640 hours requirement. PLC projects also include specific eligibility requirements such as age (You must be between the ages of 16 and 30. Some agencies also interpret these guidelines to include veterans up to age 35) and citizenship.
