The Environmental Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, developing and implementing sustainability initiatives, and minimizing the environmental impact of manufacturing operations. This role involves conducting environmental assessments, managing waste disposal, and promoting best practices in environmental management. Key Responsibilities: Regulatory Compliance - Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. - Prepare and submit necessary environmental reports and permits. - Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to environmental standards. Sustainability Initiatives - Develop and implement sustainability programs to reduce waste, energy consumption, and carbon footprint. - Promote recycling, waste reduction, and resource conservation initiatives. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into manufacturing processes. Environmental Assessments - Conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects and existing operations. - Identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation plans. - Monitor and report on environmental performance metrics. Waste Management - Oversee the proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. - Implement waste minimization strategies. - Ensure proper storage and handling of chemicals and hazardous materials. Training and Education - Provide training and education to employees on environmental policies and best practices. - Develop and distribute educational materials and resources. Emergency Response - Develop and maintain emergency response plans for environmental incidents. - Coordinate and participate in emergency response drills and activities. Documentation and Reporting - Maintain accurate records of environmental data and activities. - Prepare and present reports on environmental performance to management. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience in environmental management within the manufacturing industry. Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Associate Safety Professional DOT Trained – HazMat Waste Disposal Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental management software. Certifications in environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001) is preferred. Working Conditions: Primarily site office-based with regular access to manufacturing areas. Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions. Occasional travel may be required for training or conferences.
