Job Title: Costume Shop SupervisorDepartment: Theater and DanceClassification: ExemptGrade: 11FTE/Working Schedule: 0.60 FTE (35 hours per week during term / 10 hours per week during breaks)Position Overview:The Costume Shop Supervisor manages the operational needs of the costume shop including inventory, maintenance, and expense tracking. Additionally, this position supervises student workers assigned to the costume shop, ensuring execution of costume designs and overseeing production wardrobe crew. Compensation:The expected starting salary range for this position is between $40,000 and $41,350. The salary range has been prorated based on the part-time nature of this position. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:OperationsOversee construction, purchasing, fitting, repairing, cleaning, storing, and cataloging of costumesOversee, organize, and maintain departmental costume inventoryMaintain, organize, and repair shop equipment as neededMaintain and organize costume shop spaces, including storage, dressing rooms, and the shop itselfProduction DutiesCollaborate with costume designer(s) to create quality design within production budgetPlan, evaluate, supervise, and budget all elements related to costuming and makeup for departmental productionsAttend production and departmental meetings as necessary to coordinate costume need and timelinesAttend fittings and rehearsals as necessary to address costume needs and adjustmentsTake performer’s measurements.Provide/pull rehearsal clothing and shoes as neededWardrobe DutiesEstablish costume and makeup guidelines for performersOversee run-of-show duties, including maintenance and cleaning of costumes during runTrain and oversee backstage costume crew as neededGeneral and Administrative DutiesManage and track costume expenses related to individual productionsManage and track expenses related to operating and maintenance costs of the costume shopOversee and facilitate costume rentals to the rest of campusProvide consultation and advice to senior majors doing performance compsSupervision Received and Exercised:The Costume Shop Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of a team of up to 12 student workers. This includes training and leading these crews, ensuring they gain necessary skills for executing costume designs, maintaining all costume stock, and keeping shop equipment in working order.Education/Experience/Skills (supported by job duties): Required: BA in theater, art or design or equivalent experience5 or more years of experience in a theater or production settingIn-depth knowledge of patterning, sewing, and costume constructionPreferred:Millinery, dying, corset making, makeup and hair, craft workMust have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels. Note: This position description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
