VP, Enterprise Strategy

PURPOSE:
The VP, Enterprise Strategy works directly with the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team to develop CareFirst's vision, enterprise-level corporate strategy, and annual corporate operating plan. The VP, Enterprise Strategy is responsible for providing consultative guidance to CareFirst executives and the Board, featuring strategy recommendations that fulfill CareFirst's Mission and Vision, and secures CareFirst's leadership position in a rapidly evolving market. The Vice President is a senior leader capable of exercising influence, generating engagement and inspiring confidence across the Executive Leadership Team, the Board of Directors, external constituents, and the organization as a whole.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the development of Enterprise-wide strategies including long-term Corporate Strategic Plan and Annual Corporate and Divisional Plans to ensure CareFirst's continued growth of its core and diversified business in alignment with CareFirst's mission and vision. Monitors and reports on the progress against the strategic and annual business plans goals and metrics and recommends corrections and changes to address the changing environment.
Prepares analyses of market dynamics and trends, in support of the planning process as well as real-time business decision-making, and hosts strategic discussions to advance awareness and market advantage. Sponsors forums, communications, and reporting to guide prioritization, resource allocation, and plan execution. Provides consulting services to develop strategies in partnership with business leaders. Provides technical and expert support to the CEO and Executive Leadership on specific issues related to the marketplace environment and business operations.
Develop content for and lead discussions regarding enterprise strategy, objectives, annual performance, the external environment and trends with internal and external audiences (e.g. Executive Leadership Team discussions and workshops, Board meetings, etc.) Organizes and leads ad hoc cross-functional workgroups to assess strategic impact of emerging issues, Spearheads analysis and recommendations related to emerging issues in the external environment – how we understand it; what the implications are; what it should mean for our strategic and tactical plans.
Oversees the strategic and day-to-day activities of the Department, including directing, coaching, and guiding associates to implement departmental, divisional, and organizational goals. Recruits, retains and develops a high performing team. Evaluates performance of each team member, generates development plans and sets goals within the context of the corporate policies and procedures. Develops annual goals, and prepares, monitors, and analyzes variances of departmental budgets to control and appropriately allocate resources.

This position manages people - 1-5 10-15
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Level: Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare management or related field.
Experience: 10 years of relevant experience in strategy development and consultative planning with 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in management.
Preferred Qualifications : MBA or other advanced degree
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
Must possess strong leadership, management, analytical, project management, organizational, presentation skills, and influence management skills. Must have a high level of credibility with senior executives. Possess extensive technical expertise in strategic marketing, healthcare delivery, and health insurance. Experience in the development of a planning and monitoring process that is data and quantitatively oriented and that also takes into account the fluid conditions in the healthcare and insurance marketplace. Proven ability to work independently and throughout the organization to obtain information, develop plan, obtain consensus and monitor progress. High level of analytical skills with the ability to disseminate complicated financial and business concepts for senior management. Ability to manage consultants and agencies effectively to assist in the planning process.#LI-KL1
