OverviewIn support of the New York Public Library’s (NYPL) Teens 360º Initiative, the Teen Technology and Design team aims to equip staff with the skills and resources needed to engage teens in creative, interest-driven, technology-based learning in which they express themselves, and build marketable skills. Reporting to the Associate Manager of Teen Technology & Design, the Teen Technology Mentor will help teen patrons improve their digital literacy, explore their skills, and express themselves creatively. This position is for someone interested in community development through education. You will be supporting young adult learners of diverse cultures and educational backgrounds with a range of creative tools, from 3D printers to cutting machines to video and music editing software. The Teen Technology Mentor will serve as a borough-based mentor supporting teen patrons across Teen Centers in the Bronx, providing consistent creative technology programming and mentorship. *This is a temporary part-time position, grant-funded through September 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension.* Responsibilities Develop and modify, in collaboration with NYPL staff, a flexible curriculum that fosters creative expression and skill-building Instruct teens in weekly library programs on creative technology topics, including but not limited to visual art, music and audio production, 3D modeling and design, photography and videography, coding and robotics, and general digital literacy Provides mentorship to young adult patrons and foster a positive and engaging environment Operate and maintain the creative technology hardware in each site’s Teen Center, including but not limited to Apple MacBooks and iPads, Dremel 3D printer, Silhouette cutting machine, Speedball silkscreen printing kit, Canon digital camera, Zoom audio recording equipment, and 3Doodler 3D pens Operate and maintain the creative technology software available at each site’s Teen Center, including but not limited to Logic Pro X, GarageBand, Koala Sampler, Final Cut Pro X, iMovie, Procreate, Silhouette Studio, TinkerCAD, and Dremel Digilab Slicer Assist Young Adult Librarians at branches with maintaining the Teen Center space, conducting outreach, and performing other Teen Center functions as needed Provide consistent Teen Technology programming across Bronx Teen Centers, adapting curriculum to meet the needs of different branch communities Coordinate scheduling and programming across multiple Bronx locations in collaboration with Young Adult Librarians and Young Adult Programs & Services staff Department Branch Services & Programs Employment Type Temporary Location Stephen A. Schwarzman Building Workplace type Onsite Compensation $30.00 / hour Reporting To Jackie Ferro Required Education, Experience & Skills Required Education & Certifications High school diploma or equivalent required Required Experience 2+ years of relevant work experience Experience instructing, mentoring, or supporting teens/young adults in educational, technical, or youth-centered settings Experience providing customer service to people of all ages, particularly adolescents Experience or interest in project-based learning and informal education Familiarity with Bronx communities and youth-serving organizations. Required Skills Proficiency in visual art, photography, music production, videography, graphic design, 3D modeling, robotics, and/or other creative technology discipline Proficiency with video editing, audio editing, graphic design, and/or computer aided design software Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and creating a safe and welcoming environment for teens to facilitate unique and informal learning Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time and tasks while meeting deadlines Willingness to take direction and work collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced and service-oriented environment
