HEAD BASKETBALL COACH Position Overview We are seeking a visionary Head Basketball Coach who will develop student-athletes not just as players, but as future leaders who understand their purpose beyond the court. This role requires someone who embodies the Voice Up principles of Collaboration, Humility, Precision, Patience, and Empathy while building a program that emphasizes both competitive excellence and holistic player development. The Head Coach will create an environment where athletes can find their authentic voice, realize their full potential, and develop leadership skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Core Responsibilities ### Team Leadership & Program Development - Create and implement a comprehensive basketball program that balances competitive success with character development - Design practice plans and game strategies that maximize both team performance and individual growth - Establish clear performance standards and accountability measures aligned with program values - Apply **Precision** by developing detailed tactical systems and fundamentally sound skill development protocols - Demonstrate **Patience** in the building process, understanding that meaningful program development and culture change require consistent effort over time - Model **Collaboration** by creating an inclusive environment where staff and player input is valued in program development ### Player Development & Mentorship - Provide individualized coaching and mentorship to help each athlete reach their full potential - Conduct regular one-on-one meetings focused on both basketball skill development and personal growth - Help players connect their athletic experiences to broader life skills and future success - Create individualized development plans that address technical skills, leadership capacity, and personal growth - Practice **Empathy** by understanding each player's unique background, challenges, and aspirations - Exhibit **Humility** by focusing on player growth rather than personal recognition and remaining open to learning from players' perspectives and experiences - Balance **Precision** in technical instruction with **Patience** during player development processes, recognizing that growth occurs at different rates ### Team Culture Building - Foster an environment where all team members feel empowered to contribute their authentic voice - Implement systems that develop leadership skills in players at all levels of the program - Create opportunities for players to practice servant leadership through team roles and community engagement - Guide athletes in discovering their unique strengths and how these translate to their role on the team and in life - Use **Collaboration** to build cohesive team chemistry where diverse talents and perspectives strengthen the whole - Apply **Patience** when helping players work through conflicts or challenges within the team - Model **Empathy** by creating psychological safety that allows players to be vulnerable and authentic ### Recruitment & Talent Development - Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with program values and the Voice Up principles - Develop comprehensive recruitment strategies and maintain relationships with high school and AAU coaches - Create pathways for player development from recruitment through graduation and beyond - Apply **Precision** in evaluating talent and assessing fit with program culture and needs - Exercise **Humility** by involving assistant coaches meaningfully in the recruitment process - Demonstrate **Patience** in developing relationships with recruits and their families over time ### Program Management & Administration - Oversee all aspects of the basketball program including staff, budget, scheduling, and facilities - Ensure compliance with all relevant athletic association regulations and university policies - Coordinate with academic support services to monitor and support student-athlete academic progress - Develop relationships with alumni, community partners, and potential donors - Use **Precision** in program operations, record-keeping, and resource management - Apply **Collaboration** by working effectively with athletic administration, campus partners, and external stakeholders - Model **Empathy** when navigating competing priorities and departmental needs ### Community Engagement & Representation - Serve as an ambassador for the program and institution in all public-facing activities - Build positive relationships with fans, parents, alumni, and community members - Organize community service opportunities that allow players to develop as servant leaders - Create platforms for team members to share their growth journeys and inspire others - Represent the Voice Up principles of **Collaboration**, **Humility**, **Precision**, **Patience**, and **Empathy** in all external interactions ## Qualifications - Bachelor's degree preferred; Master's degree in sports management, education, or related field preferred - Minimum 3 years coaching experience with demonstrated success in player development - Strong understanding of basketball strategy, techniques, and skill development - Proven track record of leadership that aligns with Voice Up principles - Excellent communication and relationship-building skills - Demonstrated commitment to developing the whole person, not just the athlete - Understanding of relevant athletic association rules and regulations ## The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate understands that their ultimate success is measured by the leaders they develop, not just by wins and losses.
