Work Schedule:  Hybrid.  Work remotely as desired with 1-2 days per week spent onsite at client job sites and/or in one of the company office locations in Portland, Bend, or Seattle.

Job Summary
This high growth opportunity is with an engineering consulting firm based in the Pacific Northwest with dozens of projects located primarily throughout the PNW region. The company offers all the luxuries of an established firm with a great track record, and the excitement of a rapidly growing entrepreneurial start-up environment, as they have been consistently winning several impressive projects (some lasting 10 years into the future) and growing strong: creating new headcount, new teams, new leadership positions, converting into an ESOP, and succession planning along the way.
Successful past hires for the Consulting Electrical Engineer position have included Electrical Designers and BSEE / Electrical Engineers who have climbed the ranks in drafting and design and who are hungry for career growth. The firm is searching for a bright EE who wants flexibility (this position is remote/hybrid), autonomy, freedom to focus on what they want, variety of work and projects, learning opportunities, and career growth as well as longevity.

Job Description
This is a consulting electrical engineer position focused on design and production assisting engineering, project management, and other construction and design staff to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. Incumbents can be specialized in electrical design and/or production. Depending on experience level, this role operates autonomously under limited supervision and can have significant independent discretion within the established scope of the project. This role also has significant responsibility for project quality control. While incumbents do not supervise employees, they will frequently serve as Project Leads and mentors for junior team members.

General Responsibilities:
  • Prepare layouts, provide input for design proposals & drawings, analyze and resolve design/production issues.
  • Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and final construction drawings; determine scale, and prepare layouts for detailing.
  • Apply accepted design/drafting methods and concepts, engineering and design principles, terminology, and manufacturing materials.
  • Provide recommendations for design adaptations and modifications.
  • With approval from the Project Manager, incorporate decision recommendations; make decisions regarding design suitability using knowledge of specified product materials and production process.
  • Stay current on and apply codes; identify alternatives allowed by code exceptions to devise engineering solutions to design challenges.
  • Perform mathematical calculations using engineering formulas and analysis tools.
  • Lead or participate in project coordination meetings with clients and internal project teams; initiate meetings when appropriate; plan, schedule and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work; deliver presentation of project status, when appropriate.
  • Coordinate as necessary across a variety of building design disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural.
  • Ensure that work is completed on time and within budget.
  • Identify and communicate changes to design and/or scope that may impact deadlines, workloads, or assignments of the project and project budget; ensure that Project Manager/Project Lead is informed immediately of those changes.
  • When assigned as Project Lead, provide timely communication and correspondence with the client.
  • Lead or contribute to the financial and logistical management of multiple projects through all design and construction phases.
  • Provide technical support to other staff in areas of expertise as a trainer and mentor.
  • Where project requirements dictate, determine life cycle costing, construction cost estimating, cost indexing, and project scheduling; develop fee proposals and requests for additional services when appropriate.
  • Proactively pursue continued education, training, certifications, and opportunities to network within our industry; stay updated on code changes, industry trends, and technical tools that can be utilized in work.
  • When required, review, stamp, and sign design documents.
  • Represent the firm in a professional manner, enhancing client confidence and respect, and furthering relationships for the goal of repeat work or referrals; clients should think of you highly enough to request you, specifically, for future work.
  • When opportunities arise, promote the opportunity for new work.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering) or closely related discipline, or equivalent Electrical Design and/or Electrical Engineer project consulting experience.
  • Certifications and/or licenses such as EIT (Engineer in Training) or PE (Professional Engineer) are desired, but not required.
  • Relevant professional or technical background with generally 2 or more years of design experience in a professional engineering environment, ideally experience in consulting engineering and/or design / construction project engineering.
  • At least basic proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and other specialty-critical software preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and/or in multiple project phases simultaneously.
Company Overview
We are a leading Pacific Northwest engineering consulting group with offices in Seattle, WA; Portland, OR; Tempe, AZ; and Bend, Oregon. We provide mechanical, electrical, and data/telecom engineering; commissioning and TAB services; and owner representation for clients and projects worldwide.  We offer consulting and construction services to meet a wide variety of project types:

  • Lighting design
  • Sustainable design and LEED documentation
  • Test-Adjust Balance field services
  • Building commissioning
  • Project and construction management
  • Constructability and design reviews
  • Value analysis and value engineering
Our projects include government and military buildings; higher education and K-12 schools; industrial and commercial facilities; healthcare, clinic, and lab facilities; and retail/hospitality facilities. We are experienced in new construction, major renovations, minor repair projects, and campus-wide facilities upgrades, with particular emphasis on complex modernizations and retrofits.
Our staff includes licensed Professional Engineers; LEED-accredited professionals; certified Commissioning Agents; a certified Value Specialist; a licensed Architect; and RCDD-, NICET-, CSBA-, and NCQLP LC-certified personnel.  Our size and flexibility allow us to take on a variety of projects such as complex design and construction projects, fast-track facility repairs, and other work often considered outside the scope of "normal" subconsultant mechanical and electrical engineering.
We are very experienced serving as a Prime Consultant where we work directly with government agencies and building owners to successfully deliver small works projects, often on a fast-track or emergency basis, to maintain facility operations.
