We are seeking a skilled, personable, licensed Occupational Therapy Assistance, who, under the general supervision of the Allied Health Director for ADS and Occupational Therapists, provides Occupational therapy to individuals who are enrolled in the ABI/MFP waivers. Therapy may take place in the consumer’s home, at the TRC (training and rehabilitation center), in the community, or wherever deemed necessary. You will be working with individuals who have brain injuries, neurological impairments, and psychological impairments amongst other disorders return to their highest level of functioning. This includes training in the use of compensatory skills and aids that will enable them to live safely, productively, independently, and up to their maximum potential. The therapy will enhance personal management skills, communication skills, travel skills, community re-entry skills, and home management skills. Therapy will be focused on meeting the participant’s goals and needs and provide quality care to maximize the participant’s independent functioning and quality of life. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will be a vital member of a healthcare team, all working together to help participants with both acute and chronic conditions. The COTA will be working with the residential coordinator of each program to develop a plan appropriate for each participant. This collaborative team will work with each participant to develop the skills they need to build their sense of self-worth, improve their quality of life, and to feel less helpless executing their daily activities

Hours:

Flexible scheduling available. TRC will be open Monday-Saturday 7a-7p. Initial hours may vary during opening phase. Will need to meet needs of participant’s and caseloads. Homes are open 24/7 7 days per week dependent on participant’s schedules.

Essential duties and responsibilities: (as below but also can include other duties as assigned):

The COTA will work as an integrated member of the TRC team as well as the home based occupational therapy team that supports the rehabilitation and independence of all participants within the program.

Selects constructive activities that are suited to the participant’s needs, physical and cognitive capabilities, and interest levels to maximize their independence, assist in restoration of function, and to engage everyone in daily activities of interest.

Assists each participant and program in identifying goals of interest, as well as to promote independent functioning. Teaches individual skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluates participant’s progress.

The COTA will work as an integrated member of the Residential Team to affect programming that supports the rehabilitation and independence of all participants within a particular household.

Through the assessment and rehabilitation process the COTA with supervision from the Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Director will identify and inform Individual Support Goals that are meaningful and that will promote independence.

Provides staff training and education on how to work with each participant side by side to assist them in continuing their journey to regain the highest level of independence achievable. This model of therapy is heavily focused on using an interdisciplinary team approach for success.

Recommends special equipment for participant’s and suggests adaptation of participant’s living environment. Works with Occupational Therapist as needed to write letters of medical necessity if required to assist in obtaining required durable medical equipment.

Manages own schedule efficiently (under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist as needed).

Provides timely billing and written documentation as required by the provider to meet all reimbursement requirements.

Related duties and responsibilities:

Attends agency meetings and trainings as required.

Mentors students and interns.

Attends weekly supervision provided by the allied health director or occupational therapist as needed.

Keeps up licensure and participates in continuing education and training for best practices. Stay in good standing with all regulatory agencies and licensing boards.

Participates in continuing education and training of rehabilitation and clinical staff on best practices.

Qualifications

Education and preferred experience

Licensed certified Occupational Therapy Assistant: two years preferred knowledge and related experience in working with ABI population outpatient experience, home care experience, or other related placements.
