Job Title: Design Engineer III

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and testing of heavy equipment products. This role requires a strong understanding of feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee the design of complex heavy equipment products, analyzing and providing feedback to engineers on customer and/or product problems or technical needs.
  • Lead advanced R&D strategy and prototype development, conducting research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Interface with clients and stakeholders to resolve system malfunctions, provide technical customer service, assist with product installation/operation/maintenance, and/or develop new prototypes.
  • Author and maintain technical documents for Ring-O-Matic products.
  • Analyze manufacturing issues and create custom solutions for all industrial Vacuum excavation, heavy equipment, and pit cleaners.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide training.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field with 3 years of experience as Design Engineer III, Design Engineer, or similar job duties under a different job title.
  • Employer will accept as equivalent a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of progressive engineering experience.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience with
    1. Mechanical design engineering, with a focus on product development;
    2. Vacuum excavation engineering design;
    3. Working with hydraulics and electrical systems;
    4. CAD software such as SolidWorks;
    5. Working with PLM/PDM systems;
    6. Working with manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication techniques; and
    7. FEA.
  • 1 year in project management, including budgeting and resource allocation.

Skills:

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a manufacturing plant (indoors, no air conditioning, variable temperature including relatively high temperatures, and humidity, noise, and dirt) and with hazardous materials, including solvents, oils, grease, paint, and fuels.
