Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Senior Instrument Engineer is a staff function with no direct reports. The role is a key member of the I&PC department with many interfaces within the plant and outside the facility with vendors and other partners. Additionally, the role is a member of the Extended Leadership Team for the department. Interpersonal skills, negotiating skills, networking ability and the ability to manage multiple interfaces with varying needs and priorities are critical factors for this position. The client is wanting to hire a local Houston, TX area applicant. No relocation is provided.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIESØ Prioritizing demands from multiple internal stakeholders (e.g., Projects, Contracts & Procurement, discipline managers) while engaging and communicating with them on progress and priorities. Demands also include those originating from external sources such as manufacturers or industry partners (e.g., AFPM).Ø Developing strategic initiatives and tools applicable across the entire plant to improve HSSE and reliability performance (e.g., Predictive Monitoring, Emerson AMS, Emerson PlantWeb Optics).Ø Supporting the run and maintain organization in deployment of technology and training across the complex.Ø Supporting the SIS work process to ensure SIS components perform their intended safety function upon demand.Ø Improving test procedures by addressing testing strategies, test coverages, and digitalization opportunities.Ø Working effectively across multiple levels of the organization and helping deliver the plant’s short- and medium-term goals.Ø Serving as role model/mentor by demonstrating technical and safety leadership, ownership, and positive behaviors.Ø Prioritizing demands from multiple internal stakeholders (e.g., Projects, Contracts & Procurement, discipline managers) while engaging and communicating with them on progress and priorities. Engineering degree in Chemical, Electrical, Control, Mechanical or other relevant engineering branch· Previous job role as an Instrument Engineer, Process Control Engineer, Control Systems Engineer, or Project Control Systems Engineer.· Skill competence level in instrumentation.· Skill competence level of Emerson’s AMS.· Knowledge of industry standards, such as ISA, and API.v Beneficial:· Advanced analytical and visualization computer skills: data analytics, technical programming (e.g., Python) preferred, and visualization.· Knowledge of safety reviews (PHA, LOPA, HEMP, etc.).· Ability to decompose complex problems to ensure timely and accurate resolution of system anomalies before they impact operations.· Awareness of information/data architecture (i.e., Purdue Model for Industrial Control Systems) and associated network topography.· Awareness of different funding mechanisms (i.e., OPEX, CAPEX).· Experience vetting new instrumentation technologies.· Experience identifying and deploying instrumentation maintenance best practices.v Desired demonstrated soft skills include:· Analytical and decision-making skills and multi-faceted troubleshooting skills.· Strong organizational and planning skills (able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously) while working well in a collaborative team environment.· Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).· Innovative, flexible, and open to display a Learner Mindset, especially around understanding how different people learn concepts and how different technologies apply across the facility.· Ability to initiate self-guided work from idea conception through funding and deployment.· Has the energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to advocate for important objectives.· Ability to apply knowledge creatively to solve problems by methodically deploying new technology and tools.· Ability to build vision and strategy in consensus with site leadership and in accordance with the plant needs.
