Position Summary/Objective
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining optimal data architectures that facilitate the collection, storage, simplification, and exploration of complex datasets. This role focuses on data engineering technologies and processes, with an emphasis on platforms such as Google BigQuery, SQL, and data APIs. The engineer will ensure that data is available, reliable, and easily accessible, supporting various business requirements and initiatives.

Additionally, the Senior Data Engineer will spearhead innovative approaches to continuously improve data infrastructure, while ensuring compliance with data privacy and security standards. Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to evolving technological advancements are key components of this position.

Essential Functions
This position includes, but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and manage robust data pipelines and architectures.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data processing solutions using SQL, BigQuery, and modern ETL technologies.
  • Create and manage APIs for data consumption and integration with other systems.
  • Optimize data models and queries to improve data retrieval speeds and system efficiency.
  • Oversee data warehouse solutions, ensuring data governance and security align with organizational policies.
  • Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide scalable solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance data processing, storage, and visualization capabilities.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Provide technical expertise to project teams concerning data architecture, ensuring compatibility with existing systems and compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain awareness of Propelled Brands corporate policies and procedures as they pertain to the Data Engineers roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide mentoring for other IT members.
  • Document and maintain data architecture and processing solutions comprehensively.
  • Stay current with advancements in data engineering and seek out training and professional development opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. However the employee may be asked to mentor and teach more junior IT team members.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, smartphones, video conferencing, webinars, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets, shredding and fax machines.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to walk, talk, see and hear. And lift up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position of at least 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
Travel is primarily during business days, out-of-the-area and overnight travel is expected based on individual job responsibilities. Some of the travel may occur on weekends or be international. Company events may include Summits and the Annual Conventions may also include travel. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training plus work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on big data technologies and data systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery.
  • Proficient understanding and hands-on experience in SQL and database management.
  • Proven experience with data integration and ETL processes and tools.
  • Experience building and maintaining data-oriented APIs.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
The ideal candidate should be fully versed in the following concepts and technologies:
  • Data modeling and architecture design.
  • Experience with tools and technologies such as Apache Beam, Apache Airflow, or similar ETL frameworks.
  • Understanding of distributed data frameworks and processing such as Hadoop or Spark.
  • Knowledge of data security, governance, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) in a cloud environment.
