Job Summary:

Plays a vital role in researching, planning, testing, analyzing, implementing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing clinical information systems for a wide range of electronic health record (EHR) functionality such as but not limited to clinical documentation, Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Clinical Decision Support (CDS), Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA), Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS), Health Information Exchange (HIE) etc.

Functions and Duties:

  • Oversees the coordination, maintenance, training, and troubleshooting of hospital clinical and provider modules within the electronic health record.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams of clinical and non-clinical users. Fosters effective communication and collaboration between clinicians, IT department, vendors, and other stakeholders. Serves as a liaison to facilitate understanding and alignment between clinical needs and technical requirements.
  • Actively engages with IT staff to implement necessary system configurations, integrate systems for data exchange over interfaces, coordinate downtimes and upgrades, and help clinicians overcome technological challenges and barriers to performing clinical responsibilities.
  • Utilizes the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to streamline and optimize clinical processes using health information technology (HIT) solutions. Guides the integration of clinical workflows and processes into technology solutions in a manner consistent with professional standards of clinical practice. Ensures implemented solutions are utilized by clinicians properly and in adherence with best practices.
  • Provides ongoing support, develops, and disseminates educational materials to promote efficient and effective system usage.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Communicates findings and recommendations to stakeholders, supports decision-making processes, and engages in driving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Analyzes and recommends solutions for user/system problems and communicates to the appropriate department liaison to get problem solved.
  • Coordinates with facility staff all scheduled downtimes that will occur for dictionary or module maintenance and ensure all departments have sufficient downtime forms.
  • Leads/co-leads Meditech change management committee. Will work with clinical departments on their needs request, present to committee for approval, and work with IT for build, test, and implementation.
  • Leads/Co-leads Superuser Governance Committee.
  • Develop, maintain, and provide EHR training for hospital staff (initial and ongoing).
  • Project Management as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of health sciences program, informatics or information technology required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • 3 years patient care experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Proficient in the electronic medical record for clinical workflow functions such as documentation, electronic ordering, care planning, medication use (dispensing, medication administration, bedside medication verification) etc.
  • Meditech experience preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Actively licensed healthcare professional (preferred)
    1. Nursing – APN, RN
    2. Pharmacy – CPhT, RPh
    3. Lab – MLT, MT
    4. Dietitian – RD
    5. Respiratory – CRT, RRT

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient technical skills

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time
  • Computer usage for prolonged periods of time
