Position Description:
The contractor shall primarily support military service members and their family members at AMR, MPC, Wheeler, Helemano Military Reservation
(HMR) Chapels. The Chapels are located:
SOUTH:
- AMR Chapel 1790 Bougainville Loop, Aliamanu Military Reservation, Family Housing, Honolulu, Hawaii
NORTH:
- MPC Chapel 790 McCornack Road, Schofield Barracks, HI 96857
- Wheeler Chapel Bldg. 679, Wheeler Army Airfield, HI Chapel, WAAF 96786
- HMR Chapel 173 Romero Rd, Building #25, Wahiawa, HI, HI 96786
You will only work out of one of the chapels.
This is NOT a full-time job with a standard 0900-1700, Monday through Friday work environment. Workdays and hours will vary according to the approved Calendar of Events, tasks, and the times of meetings. Many of the tasks require evening and weekend hours, and the client will partner with the contractor to determine what core hours are necessary.
You shall have access to the chapels and office facilities during normal duty hours, 0900-1600, Monday through Friday. These hours are contingent upon chapel staff availability and coordination with key control officers for building access on weekends or holidays.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate CCD and RE Programs for North & South Catholic Community
- Monitor and support volunteer teachers and students participating in weekly Catholic Sacramental programs, to include Reconciliation, Communion, Confirmation, RCIA, Baptism and Out of Sequence classes. All sacramental programs require coordination with the Sacramental Team, to include the Catholic Priest, DRE, Parish Coordinator and Youth Coordinator.
- Provides ongoing support and resources for all elements of the sacramental programs. Support includes: 1. research, order and distribute curriculum materials and supplies for each class, 2. registration of children, 3. assist with Catholic specific aspects of adult & Family religious education (Catholic Women of the chapel, Knights of Columbus, etc.) 4. Plan and prepare all materials/supplies for weekly Catholic RE programs to include: student/teacher packets, crafts, literature, video resources and equipment, 5. Prepare and distribute supplies for all RE and Sacramental programs to include: student packets, parent letters, 6. Coordinate academic calendar with the Director Religious Education, the Protestant REC and the Catholic Chaplain.
- Support four events for the Catholic Youth of the Chapel for various age groups. Prepare publicity and purchase coordination that supports the events. Reserve facility or space for each event and ensure event is on the chapel calendar. Provide set up and tear down. (Typically, events are one day;
- Prepare and execute four seasonal events as directed by the Director of Religious Education; Advent, Lent, Back to school, Volunteer Recognition.
- Plan and execute family religious education as directed by Director of Religious Education.
Coordinate, Plan, and execute Catholic Confirmation Retreat, Sacramental Celebrations, rehearsals, and parent meetings.
- Events/activities include First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, Easter Vigil and the Retreat.
- Prepare and print bulletins and agenda needed for all sacramental celebrations, rehearsals and the retreat.
- Prepare Archdiocese for Military Service paperwork prior to rehearsals for review by parent and/or candidate. Corrected and signed copy, plus parish certificate, to be given to candidate at celebration.
- Schedule and conduct rehearsals for Reconciliation and Communion, notifying those involved by bulletin announcement and letter, or phone call when needed.
- Prepare all resource materials for Sacramental celebrations, parent meetings, rehearsals and the retreat to include crafts, literature, video resources honorariums and equipment.
- Support the sacramental celebrations to include: assist children during the processional; seating arrangements for families; coordinate ushers, altar servers and Eucharistic ministers; coordinate room setup for photographer; provide support and attend Confirmation retreat.
Attend religious education coordination meetings Meetings include: Planning and coordination with the Senior Chaplain, RE Planning (Community-wide), Parrish council, Leadership Summit (biannual) and VBS planning. (DRE will determine date and time of the Religious Education Coordination Meetings.) As requested, provide Quarterly Action Plans, attendance reports and Activity Reports to the DRE with specified content and format.
Coordinate, plan, prepare and participate in Vacation Bible School Recruit, train, monitor and support all volunteers who assist with the annual week-long Summer Vacation Bible School. This is a nondenominational event. Children from all faith groups are invited and encouraged to attend. Contractor will be assigned a functional position within the VBS leadership team as determined by the Director of religious education.

- Recruit, train and support volunteers who assist with Religious Education programs. When using volunteers who will work with children, recruit at least two (2) adult volunteers for each group.
- All volunteers working children must meet Army Directives, Policies and Regulations regarding required training and background checks.
- Distribute, review and submit background check paperwork IAW The Director of Religious education, in compliance with AD 2014-23. All volunteers will be cleared before working unsupervised with any element of the religious education program.
- Annual volunteer training includes, Orientation, Safe environment, Leadership Summit, and Program-specific training.
