Schedule: 8 AM to 5 PM EST


Position Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Neurology Nurse Practitioner to join our established and growing neurology practice in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This role will involve providing comprehensive care for patients with a variety of neurological conditions, including but not limited to epilepsy, stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and dementia. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. The ideal candidate will have experience in neurology or related fields, strong diagnostic skills, and a passion for improving the lives of patients with neurological disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment & Diagnosis:
    • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients with neurological symptoms, including history-taking, physical exams, and neurological assessments.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., MRI, CT scans, EEG, blood tests) to support clinical decision-making.
    • Develop differential diagnoses based on clinical findings and collaborate with neurologists as needed for complex cases.
  • Treatment & Management:
    • Create and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with neurological disorders, including medication management and lifestyle modifications.
    • Prescribe and manage pharmacologic treatments, including medications for conditions such as epilepsy, migraines, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimers.
    • Monitor patient progress, make adjustments to treatment plans as needed, and coordinate ongoing care for chronic conditions.
  • Patient Education:
    • Provide education to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, disease progression, and symptom management.
    • Offer counseling and support for patients dealing with chronic neurological conditions, helping them navigate emotional and psychological challenges.
    • Promote preventive care, including lifestyle changes, physical therapy, and rehabilitation options.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
    • Work closely with neurologists, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
    • Assist in coordinating referrals to specialists as needed (e.g., neurosurgery, neuropsychology, speech therapy).
    • Participate in patient care meetings, case discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Clinical Documentation:
    • Maintain thorough and up-to-date patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, follow-up care, and patient progress.
    • Ensure all documentation complies with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and institutional policies.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay current with the latest research, guidelines, and treatment advances in neurology.
    • Participate in continuing education, conferences, and training opportunities to maintain certification and licensure.
  • On-call and Weekend Coverage (if applicable):
    • May be required to provide on-call coverage or assist with weekend shifts depending on the needs of the department and practice.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Completion of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program with a focus on neurology is preferred.
  • Licensing & Certification:
    • Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in the state of Indiana.
    • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (AANP or ANCC) required.
    • Neurology Nurse Practitioner certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred but not required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in neurology or a related healthcare field, such as internal medicine or general surgery, preferred.
    • Experience in an outpatient or hospital setting is ideal.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
    • Ability to develop and execute treatment plans for complex neurological conditions.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate and support patients and families.
    • Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems, preferably Epic or Cerner.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced clinical environment.
