CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

The National WWII Museum currently has an opening for a Curriculum Development Specialist. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Teacher Programs within the Museum’s Education Department, the Curriculum Development Specialist is responsible for planning, writing, implementing, distributing, and evaluating standards-aligned curricula and resources across multiple subject matter to further the Museum’s educational mission. This includes creating new curriculum related to the Museum’s permanent and temporary exhibits and to fill in content and subject gaps within the Museum’s existing classroom resources. The Curriculum Development Specialist will support the expansion of the Museum’s online teacher training initiatives including but not limited to online courses and workshops and e-learning activities by structuring and building out content and lessons. The Curriculum Development Specialist will present training sessions on content and pedagogy at the Museum, online, and across the country.
Requirements:- Create lesson plans, activities, and resources across subject matter that align to standards.
- Develop the Museum’s online training offerings, including the creation and execution of online courses and workshops.
- Work with the AD of Teacher Programs and the Teacher Outreach Specialist to coordinate content presented in onsite and offsite workshops, schedules, and itineraries.
- Work with the Assistant Director of Distance Learning and Distance Learning Specialist in scheduling and staffing of online Professional Development offerings.
- Execute robust program design, documentation, and evaluation of curriculum and online offerings.
- Works with team members across the Education & Access division to source primary source materials, historical oversight, and content to be infused in curriculum offerings.
- Work with Institutional Advancement Department to create funding proposals for teacher initiatives.
- Participate in assigned task forces, staff committees, projects, assignments, tasks, etc. as directed by the Assistant Director of Teacher Programs, Director of Teaching and Learning or the Associate Vice President of Education.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred) in curriculum and instruction, education, history, museum education, or related field.
- Minimum of three years’ successful experience working with elementary and/or secondary school students and teachers in a school, museum, or other educational setting.
- Knowledge of current national and state-level standards across disciplines; familiarity and comfort with inquiry-based approaches to instruction, such as the C3 Framework and The Inquiry Design Model
- Demonstrated experience in leading professional development trainings for adults, especially teachers, a plus.
- Familiarity with e-learning and collaboration tools including Zoom, Canvas, Articulate, and Padlet.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness to work overtime during special events or heavy programmatic or visitation periods or to meet deadlines.
