EMH&T is seeking a Principal Investigator Archaeologist to join our Cultural Resources team located in Columbus, Ohio.

The position will work closely with EMH&T’s environmental and cultural resources staff to support EMH&T’s cultural resource practice.

Our Cultural Resource team works on a variety of projects that require compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and we are committed to excellence in our work. Projects may range from small, local surveys to large, out of state projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead for cultural resources management projects.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of multiple cultural resources projects.
  • Serve as lead author and technical reviewer of cultural resources reports.
  • Oversee and ensure technical accuracy of field investigations, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Provide oversight, technical direction and training to less experienced professional staff.
  • Advise and consult with project managers to ensure project compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and associated federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate with clients and government agencies (e.g., Ohio State Historic Preservation Office and other SHPOs).
  • Assist with project scoping and project management.
  • Help promote and maintain a safe, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
  • Be able to work productively as part of a team, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (MA/MS or Ph.D.) in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field.
  • Meet the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualifications for Archaeology.
  • Experience and ability to serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) for complex, high-profile projects for a variety of clients and sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106, Section 110), National Environmental Policy Act, and associated federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated, full-time experience working on cultural resources projects, with progressive experience toward directing research efforts/projects.
  • The ability to independently identify Pre-Contact and Historic Period cultural resources.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ODOT Prequalification in Archaeological Investigations
  • Professional accreditation, e.g., Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
  • Experience with cemeteries
  • Experience and capability across the US in providing cultural resources services
  • Experience with using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for cultural resources surveys
