ABOUT THE ROLE

Our engineering organization is comprised of three primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE) and Product Validation. This role is situated within Product Validation.

The Validation Engineering Team is vital in delivering the best-in-class transit buses through rigorous development and testing of Components, Systems and Vehicles to internal and external requirements. These efforts focus primarily on:

  • Program DVP&R development, scheduling, and execution
  • Development of requirements, test procedures and reports
  • Instrumenting vehicles to support testing & development
  • Coordinating and supporting testing efforts in the laboratory or field
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Submittals of Regulatory and Emissions documentation
  • Bench testing for both Inhouse and supplier
  • Finite Element Analysis and simulation

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
  • Performing stress analysis of primary and secondary heavy-duty vehicle structures made of metallic and composite materials
  • Apply free body diagrams, hand calculations and numerical methods for estimating and developing loads
  • Perform linear and non-linear structural analysis including static/transient structural, modal, Random Vibration and Response Spectrum Analyses
  • Validate finite element analysis with hand calculations and test data, and hence work with the team to develop test requirements
  • Support development of new and complex designs through delivering robust analyses that predict the products' response under expected use conditions and simulates its performance in real operational conditions
  • Coordinate & communicate regularly with the leadership and other members across GILLIG to provide & receive updates on project progress, quality metrics, project summaries, and other related documents
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Bachelor of Science Aerospace Engineering (BSAE), or equivalent fields (Master's degree in an engineering discipline a plus)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with vehicle strength, stability, fatigue/durability assessments through finite element analysis
  • Good understanding of structural mechanics/dynamics and mechanical designs coupled with a basic background in thermal and fluids analysis
  • Experience with the FEA software (ANSYS's toolset is highly preferred), as well as 3D modeling environments (NX is preferred)
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including but not limited to sheet metal, welding, casting, etc.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, customers, internal and external suppliers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints
  • Run simulations and provide recommendations to engineering on results of analysis as well as coordinate efforts externally as needed
  • Automotive, Heavy Duty On/Off Road or Commercial vehicle experience preferred
  • General knowledge of heavy-duty vehicle industry standards, regulations, and guidelines such as FMVSS, ADA, APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, SAE HD vehicle standards, NFPA, ANSYS Tool Suite, NEC MATLAB, Simulink, and State flowchart
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and occasionally kneel or squat
  • Limited travel may be required
  • Standard start time: 7:00AM (negotiable)

EXPECTED COMPENSATION

$75,000 - $275,000/annual salary + premium benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
