SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION

The ESS Teacher’s primary responsibility will be overseeing and implementing the Exceptional Scholar Services (ESS) program at their site. Under the direction of the ESS Director, Site Principal and Head of Schools, the ESS Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for scholars with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The ESS Teacher is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specially designed instruction for scholars with disabilities, such that the scholars benefit from the classical education model and curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids, accommodations, modifications and other needed supports.

Line of Authority/Reports to: ESS Teacher shall be directly responsible to the Principal, ESS Director, and/or Head of Schools and will work directly with Administration.

Works with: ESS Director, Vice Principal, Principal, Head of Schools, Department Heads, Faculty, Office Staff, Health Services Coordinator, Families and Scholars of Leman Academy.


Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and HQ Status: Bachelor's Degree in subject area being taught; passing scores on the appropriate Educator Proficiency Assessments -or- Colorado state Teaching Certificate. Preference is that applicants hold an Colorado Teaching Certificate.
  • CBI Fingerprint Clearance / Background and Criminal History Clearance.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Classical curricula and learning -OR- a willingness and desire to learn the Classical model of education.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy and methodology -OR- a willingness to better understand Miss Mason’s educational philosophy and methodology.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Common Core Standards (2020 Colorado Academic Standards) -OR- a willingness to learn such standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of MAP Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System w/Assessment Technology Incorporated (ATI) -OR- a willingness to effectively understand the MAP Online Instructional Improvement and Instructional Effectiveness System w/ATI.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all scholars with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to scholars in a group and an individual setting.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of Exceptional Scholar Services.
  • Completes observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of scholars.
  • Displays the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, scholars, parents and community members.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) k-12 online assessment system -OR- a willingness to effectively understand the NWEA online assessment system.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of eIEP Pro (web-based IEP writing program) -OR- a willingness to learn such programs.
  • Proven leadership ability promoting collaborative decision making.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to positively impact community, parents, scholars, administration, instructional staff and office support staff.
  • Strong commitment to supporting and safeguarding the principles of excellence in classical education.
  • Working knowledge of pedagogy, instructional methodology, and curriculum development.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Data-Driven Instruction model -OR- a willingness to better understand and learn more of data-driven instruction and assessment decision-making.

Duties and Areas of Responsibility:

  • Coordinating and assuring full state and federal compliance with all aspects of programming (identification, review, dismissal) for scholars with disabilities per the IDEA, Section 504 and the ADA.
  • Provide direct Exceptional Scholar Services, as needed, and supervising itinerant service providers; provide direct and indirect instructional support to scholars in a positive environment.
  • Conduct formal and informal assessments of scholars to determine progress made toward achieving IEP goals on a weekly or monthly basis. Progress reports sent home to parents each quarter.
  • Meet with parents to discuss their child's progress and to determine priorities for their child and their individualized educational needs.
  • Establish and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior, maintaining order among the scholars for whom you are responsible.
  • Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
  • Instruct scholars in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet scholars' varying needs and interests.
  • Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the scholars’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
  • Modify the classical education curriculum for scholars with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
  • Facilitate in the development and implementation of informal academic and behavior intervention programs for individual scholars in need.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides scholars with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all scholars.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote scholars' educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholar records and prepare reports on scholars and activities, as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to scholars.
  • Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of scholars in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Provide crisis intervention, as needed, for scholars and those in inclusive classrooms.
  • Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
  • Serve as a member of a Scholar Study Team (SST) and a multidisciplinary team, as appropriate.
  • Preparing and reporting accurate and timely data for internal and external regulatory purposes; assist in preparation of data for local, state, and federal reports.
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality per FERPA.

Compensation

Salary Range: $61,328.62 - $86,529.21 annually

Additional Stipends May be Available.


Leman Academy offers a very competitive benefits package and overall compensation will be commensurate with talent, experience and education.

As a Leman Academy of Excellence Employee, you shall be afforded benefits if you work thirty (30) hours or more each week, all as prescribed in the Personnel Policies of the School, and such revision thereof as are made and approved by the Board of Directors of the School all of which have been adopted by the School. Benefits eligibility and enrollment for Employees working thirty (30) hours or more per week include but are not limited to:

  • Voluntary medical insurance, vision plan, and dental plan; enrollment for Employees beginning employment are effective the first of the month following start date of full time employment unless agreed upon by administration.
  • Life Insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Long and Short Term Disability benefits are effective the first day of the month following start date of full time employment.
  • Leman is a PERA Employer.
  • If the Employee is terminated, the Employee will be covered with all benefits described above until the last day of the month in which they terminate.
  • Benefits eligibility and enrollment continue for current admin/Employees who sign a new Agreement. Retirement plan and long-term disability eligibility and enrollment are based on the beginning date of employment in the initial Agreement.
