RADIOLOGY – MRI TECHNOLOGIST - Per Diem
FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTER – BUTNER, NC
UHealthSolutions, Inc. is seeking to hire a Radiology – MRI Technologist within The Federal Medical Center in Butner, NC. FMC Butner is a United States federal prison in North Carolina for male inmates of all security levels who have special health needs. It is part of the Butner Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Butner) and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), a division of the United States Department of Justice. It is located near the Research Triangle area of Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
POSITION SUMMARY:
To perform diagnostic testing by operating a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner to create body images.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Clean, disinfect, and prepare all equipment for use.
- Program the machine to proper voltage, current and desired exposure time as dictated by the physician.
- Monitor patient’s condition pre and post imaging to ensure patient safety and comfort.
- Explain procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
- Prep and assist all patients as needed for the examination.
- Position patient, set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as required by physician.
- Select software options and imaging parameters when adjusting the MRI.
- Perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination.
- View and record all imaging result as required.
- Operate independently and without direct supervision when performing examination procedures.
- Maintain full knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy of the head, thorax, abdomen, physiology, and MRI terminology, practices and procedures, and MRI systems.
- Ensure timeliness of all exams as per facility protocol.
- Enforce magnetic field safety procedures for all patients and staff.
- Provide images to the facility in the desired format.
- Maintain all logs and service manuals as required.
- Follow quality assurance guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems,
- Ensure service call and notification of pertinent team members as applicable
- Maintain a clean environment in all working areas.
- Perform clerical functions as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must pass pre-employment examination.
- Specialized post-training in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
- Background and investigation required.
- English language proficiency required.
- All other duties and responsibilities as required by contract.
- Current Basic Life Support (BL) Certification.
EDUCATION
Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate education leading to a degree program in the radiology or other directly related field for diagnostic radiology/imaging. Education may relate to the duties of a specific position or to the occupation, but be appropriate for the position being filled.
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is highly desirable, in addition to certification by ARRT as a general radiologic technologist. MRI registration required.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- Fluency in additional (second) language desirable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interaction relative to the specific age of a patient.
- Skills validation/certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities required for position.
- Maintain North Carolina License requirements for CEUs.
- Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the health care team.
- Work is performed in all areas of the institution.
- Work may require lifting or pushing in excess of 30 pounds.
- Work may require carrying objects approximately 20 pounds
- Work requires walking, running, climbing and bending.
- Customer service and communication expertise

As a UHealthSolutions employee working at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner, you must comply not only with all of the policies, rules and regulations of UHealthSolutions, but also with all of the rules and regulations of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner. You will be trained in UHealthSolutions and Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner policies by UHealthSolutions and Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner, respectively. As a condition of employment with UHealthSolutions, it is a requirement that all employees must be able to gain and maintain Federal Bureau of Prisons, FCC Butner approval for facility access.
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks.
Successful completion of the “Introduction to Correctional Techniques”, three week training course is required.
This position has been identified as test designated. Incumbents will be subject to urinalysis testing under the BOP Drug Free Workplace Plan.
