Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Play Therapist to join our mental health team. The ideal candidate will use play therapy techniques to help children, adolescents, and families address emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges. As a Licensed Play Therapist, you will provide a safe, therapeutic space for clients to express their emotions, develop coping strategies, and work through trauma or developmental issues. You will work collaboratively with other mental health professionals to create individualized treatment plans and offer guidance to families in supporting their child’s emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct play therapy sessions with children and adolescents to address emotional and psychological challenges.
  • Use therapeutic play techniques to help clients explore their emotions, process trauma, and develop healthy coping strategies.
  • Assess clients' needs through observation and standardized tools, and develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and families to support the therapeutic process and provide guidance on behavior management and emotional regulation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including treatment plans, session notes, and progress evaluations.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and referrals when necessary.
  • Provide psychoeducation and support to parents and caregivers regarding child development and emotional well-being.
  • Stay current with developments in play therapy techniques, child psychology, and trauma-informed care.
  • Facilitate group play therapy sessions when appropriate.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and supervision to maintain licensure and expand clinical skills.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Licensed as a Play Therapist (RPT, RPT-S, or equivalent certification).
  • Licensed to practice as a counselor, psychologist, or social worker in the state of practice.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a therapeutic setting, particularly with play therapy techniques.
  • Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and family systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to create a safe, nurturing environment that fosters emotional expression and healing.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, ethical practice, and professional boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with trauma-focused play therapy, art therapy, or sand tray therapy.
  • Bilingual abilities (depending on the population served).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and families.

Work Environment:

  • This role may require work in a clinical office setting, schools, or community centers.
  • Flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, may be required to accommodate client schedules.
