POSITION SUMMARY
This position performs a variety of work relating to the maintenance and calibration of highly sophisticated instrumentation and remote data acquisition telemetry electronics relative to details of assigned duties. The position may install, calibrate and maintain various measuring instrumentation including ultrasonic flow meters, dissolved oxygen meters, telemetry, and gas detectors.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs installation, repair, maintenance, and routine calibration schedules for instrumentation utilized in the operation and monitoring of water/wastewater treatment and flow measurement including telemetry. Responds to critical equipment failures when required. Maintains and calibrates in-shop and repair and test equipment.

2. Inspects equipment and reports condition and problems to supervisor. Ability to use technical manuals, engineering drawings and one-line diagrams.

3. Maintains repair shop and service truck cleanliness and appearance.

4. Maintains records of work performed. Assists in the maintenance of files and records of electronic equipment and work order management systems.

5. Maintains and calibrates safety equipment including confined space entry equipment, arc flash and Personal Protective Equipment. Performs all duties while observing safety guidelines and security measures as established by the Authority.

6. May be assigned some lead duties of more junior level electricians to include training and communicating routine instructions. Ability to convey and receive information in written and verbal forms to others. Maintains good communications with supervisors and co-workers.

7. Employees assigned to this position are classified as essential personnel.  Essential personnel are required to report to work when scheduled during departmental and/or emergency situations including, but not limited to, extended periods of inclement weather when travel may be difficult.  This position is essential because in the absence of sufficient personnel, the plant cannot operate safely.

Regularly leads the work of other employees


FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
May order supplies, equipment parts, materials, equipment, for department use as approved by supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION
(required level of education)
High school diploma or GED. Thirty college credit hours or equivalent technical education preferred. Approved courses are electronics preferred.


EXPERIENCE
(minimum years and types of related experience required)
Two years of experience in the repair and maintenance of sophisticated electronic apparatus preferred.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
(any specialized certifications licenses or registrations required by TRA or other authority in order to do the job, including those the incumbent must be able to obtain)
Valid Texas driver's license. Class I Wastewater Collection System Operator license is required for positions working in the collection system, Class D for positions working at the plant. Confined space entry and Personal Protective Equipment certification within 6 months from date of hire is required.


KNOWLEDGE
(Information or facts than employee must know in order to be able to perform the work)
Must possess thorough knowledge of A.C., D.C. analog and digital electronics and a reasonable understanding of electric instrumentation. Has a high understanding of the digital remote telemetry system.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to calculate mathematical formulas. Ability to comprehend and carry out written and oral instruction. Ability to read and apply information from operation and maintenance manuals, schematics, blueprints, and Safety Data Sheets. Ability to use computerized maintenance management system.


GUIDANCE RECEIVED
Receives regular instructions and chooses between a range of procedures. Follows and chooses from a range of established procedures, work methods and direct instructions. Has some flexibility about the sequence of work. Issues outside of specific instructions and procedures are referred to supervisor or more senior position.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires passing a physical and physical ability assessment specific to the position.


WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, noise, chemical hazards, gases and dust, standing for prolonged periods of time, walking up and down several flights of stairs, climbing and descending ladders, working at heights, and working in tight or confined spaces.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
Precision and exotic test equipment, electrically insulated hand tools, two-way radio, power tools, calibration and maintenance equipment, analog and digital equipment, office equipment and pickup truck.
