Project Engineer

Summary
This position provides technical information to project supervisors to ensure work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications. May coordinate change orders, expedite material, and job site equipment, assist in the preparation of estimates, and compile data to assist in analyzing project progress. Inspects all work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with company safety policies on job sites
- Maintains and updates necessary documentation for all projects
- Leads process and procedure development at the divisional level
- Acquires stockpile and equipment staging areas for each project
- Verifies quantities between award and project kickoff meeting to identify variances up front
- Identifies limits of work prior to the crew's arrival
- Creates maps for the project handoff materials that indicate scope and limits of work
- Orders timely delivery of aggregates to the stockyards
- Supports Sales by measuring and evaluating scope for projects that may be bid, as needed
- Assists in the estimating/quoting process when necessary
- Mentors new hires
- Ensures QC policies are followed
- All other duties as assigned
Skills and Education
Required
- Entry-level with appropriate education or 5+ years of relevant field experience
- Understanding of takeoffs, blueprints, specifications, quantity measurements, etc.
- Well-established organizational skills with strong attention to detail, record-keeping skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred
- Construction Management, Engineering, Business or other relevant degree
- Experience with PennDOT ECMS system, strongly preferred
- Familiarity with scheduling and/or estimating software is a plus
Job Requirements
- Computer experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to work in a team environment with a variety of other company employees
- Ability to work independently without close supervision
- Ability to work closely with customers and outside vendors on a regular basis
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Ability to perform primarily sedentary work, yet occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force
- Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiting manual dexterity
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone and other similar office equipment
- All other job duties as assigned
Work Environment
Travel: Required
Perform sedentary work, which includes sitting a majority of the time, yet occasionally exerting up to ten pounds of force. Work setting is primarily office-based, but conditions may involve limited exposure to chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment. Must have the ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. Operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone, and other similar office equipment.
