We are looking to hire a manual dispatcher to join our team.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION - Contract to hire. This opportunity is to build routes manually using the phone to dispatch drivers who are transporting people to and from appointments. This is the "Old School" dispatching. How well do you know Metro Detroit? Will you be able to demonstrate your knowledge of Metro Detroit communities, freeways and main roads as well as the logistical proximity of one to another? Imagine you have 300 trips on a given day. It's like solving a puzzle...You will have to manually build routes for drivers. These routes must consider the time and the distance between two locations and the time that will take to get to the subsequent pickup location. All routes must make business sense.

Please note - This is not a call center experience type of job. This is not an ambulance, fire, or police-type dispatch. This is manual routing of transportation requests and manual dispatching utilizing a limited pool of drivers that are most likely already in route with people on board to somewhere else. You will need to know where your drivers are at all times and which one will be able to respond to a new transportation request without impacting already pre-set routes.

The dispatcher/Router will manually build the next-day routes and will also dispatch drivers over the phone.

The open position is at our Farmington Hills, Michigan dispatch office and is a contract-to-direct hire. The ideal match is having at least 3 to 5 years experience of in manually putting routes together coupled with a dispatching experience. This ideal candidate will successfully perform this job's requirements when his/hers knowledge and experience of dispatching and routing are complemented with being responsible and punctual, having positive self-starter attitude and embracing team work in a very dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

1. Coordinate resources (drivers and vehicles) required to service customer's needs

· Create and update vehicle and driver records

· Keep phone directory current

2. Utilizing software and knowledge of market area to maximize route efficiency

· Building efficient daily routes manually and electronically

· Continually consolidating routes for efficiency

· Covering emergency trips

· Learning customer territories

3. Monitoring performance of drivers

· Performing daily check-in AM/PM (verbally or in person)

· Updating the time-keeping spreadsheet with IN and OUT times

· Updating the Customer Payment logs and control cash/check “turn-ins”

· Continuously monitoring drivers and their locations by utilizing GPS and via phone calls to ensure drivers are not being late to their assignments

· Training and educating new drivers to enforce rules and guidelines

· Complying with company policies and procedures

· Conducting vehicle inspections

· Conducting ride-a-longs as needed

· Providing feedback and documentation for performance issues

4. Maintaining vehicles according to the company and manufacturers' maintenance and safety recommendations

· Identifying necessary maintenance through communication with drivers

· Monitoring mileage to ensure timely maintenance

· Ensuring vehicles are clean, free of damage, with proper signage

5. Identifying customer specifications and ensuring drivers comply with specifications

· Understanding the customers' unique priorities and requirements

· Communicating and ensuring customers' concerns are addressed timely and professionally

· Monitoring sensitive relationships/situations to prevent repeat concerns

6. Manage customer records and calls – create and update data when required

7. Maintaining professional relationships with customers and employees

8. Complying with company policies and procedures

9. Work some weekends and holidays if necessary

Please note - This is not a call center experience type of a job.

Must be a part of a holiday schedule rotation including Christmas time if necessary.
