Bark City Urgent Care- Veterinary Assistant- Technician (Full-Time and some Part Time/Relief Weekend Positions)

Bark City is looking for technicians and assistants who want to make a difference working in our Weekend Urgent Care. We are open to part time/relief/and full-time technicians and assistants. If you have a passion to serve and help patients and their owners while being part of a great team, this may be the place for you.

About Us:

At Bark City Veterinary Specialists and Weekend Urgent Care, our mission is simple. We work with family veterinarians to ensure pets receive the best care possible. As a small veterinary owned Specialty and Urgent Care Hospital, Bark City runs on collaboration with local veterinarians. While family veterinarians handle the patient's primary health concerns, Bark City provides many forms of Specialized Care and Urgent Care to assist in maximizing a pet’s health and quality of life. We believe in a compassionate & personal approach to everything we do. In our Weekend Urgent Care our responsibility is to provide the family and primary care veterinarian with the best possible treatment plan for their needs.


Our weekend hours consist of Saturdays 10am to 8pm, and Sundays 10am to 8pm. With immediate plans to grow the Urgent care to Friday afternoon and evening 2pm to 10pm.

We are seeking compassionate, motivated, high performance, and team-minded Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants to join our high paced growing, and dynamic practice. We are seeking compassionate talents with an outstanding adaptability to an everchanging environment. Candidates who are driven, able to stay focused and busy, service oriented, and have a team mentality are highly desired

Emergency training/specialty training a plus

  • Strong math skills
  • Able to monitor anesthetic patients (ECG, SPO2, ETCO2)
  • Able to integrate clinical signs with disease processes to assist doctors with needed interventions for patient care
  • Radiology skills/able to acquire images with proper positioning
  • Ability to prepare animals for surgery
  • Administer medications and treatments for hospitalized patients
  • Bandaging and Splints


Veterinary Technician/ Assistant Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Client Service
  • Patient Restraint during exams and surgical/treatment procedures.
  • Anesthetic induction and monitoring
  • Bandaging and splints
  • Wound Care
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and tools.
  • Clean the hospital and patient environment, this may include windows and walls during down time.
  • Ensure exam, treatment, and operating rooms are stocked and sterilized.
  • Prepare and Administer medications.
  • Prepare prescriptions
  • Collecting samples such as blood or urine for testing. Able to prepare and process blood for in house or send out testing.
  • Communicate with owners and families on surgery, treatment, and recovery instructions.
  • Perform administrative duties such as checking clients in, updating files, and processing payments or accepting deposits
  • Maintain and complete all required yearly CE if licensed technician.
  • Adapt to and follow all protocols and standards of procedures implemented.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Veterinary Assistant Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or course credit in veterinary technology or animal science from an American Veterinary Medical Association-accredited program a plus.
  • An interest in becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician a plus.
  • 1+ years of experience in animal care or in a clinic preferred but not required.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Basic understanding of animal behavior and health care.
  • Passion for working with animals and their owners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook)
  • Attention to detail to maintain accurate patient records.
  • Physical ability to restrain larger pets when necessary.
  • Familiarity with the EMR system EzyVet preferred, but not required.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must be comfortable with anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, radiology, laboratory, anesthesiology, fluid therapy, sterilization, surgical support, and all general areas of veterinary medicine.
  • Ability to work within and maintain details a necessity
