Revenue Accountant

Job Summary:

Mid-level professional responsible for managing and tracking the company’s total revenue, including both project and service activities, ensuring that revenue is recorded and reported accurately in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Must be capable of fulfilling the project accounting and cost reporting requirements of multiple mid-sized projects or singular large project, including day-to-day interface with project management. The revenue management accountant will also be primarily responsible for margin analysis for the project business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Sales and Margins

• Ensure the completeness and accuracy of monthly revenues and costs for projects and aftersales activities.
• Communicate effectively with Project Managers (PMs) regarding contract documents, change orders, contract modifications, approvals, and additional services impacting billing.
• Research unbilled issues to optimize billing opportunities within each billing period.
• Set up new projects in the system and accurately record employee billable hours and expenses.
• Recommend and implement process improvements in the billing cycle for greater efficiency.
• Maintain thorough project-related records, including contracts, change orders, and client correspondence.
• Investigate project variances, submit variance reports to management, and collaborate with relevant teams to address issues.
• Monitor revenue streams across multiple projects, providing insights into performance relative to initial estimates and forecasts.
• Track project performance against budgeted margins, adjusting financial projections as needed.
• Report on project and aftersales profitability to management, analyzing revenue and margin trends.
• Close out project accounts upon project completion, reviewing final revenues and costs to ensure accuracy.

Month-End Process

• Assist in compiling month-end financial reports and revenue analysis.
• Review month-end revenue entries and reconcile discrepancies to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Support sales analysis, providing actionable insights on revenue trends and potential growth areas.
• Prepare and distribute the financial package, ensuring timely and accurate data compilation.
• Manage month-end accruals and related activities, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.

Ad Hoc Projects

• Conduct revenue analyses for special projects, including revenue generation initiatives and cost-saving opportunities.
• Support year-end audits and ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies and internal controls.
• Contribute to the development of financial models for revenue forecasting and new project proposals.
• Collaborate on cross-departmental revenue improvement initiatives to support strategic organizational objectives.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
• Must have three (3) years’ experience in accounting and controlling activities, specifically margin analysis
• Intermediate to advanced computer literacy, including experience in word processing, spreadsheets and accounting software, specifically SAP (required).
• Ability to work well with others under deadline situations and respond to changes in priorities.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion.
• Employ problem-solving skills and analysis, and report problems to the Controller, as necessary.
