As a Survey Department Manager, you will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of surveying projects, ensuring quality and efficiency while fostering team growth and maintaining client satisfaction. This role combines leadership, technical expertise, and strategic oversight to support the continued success of our survey department.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic and Operational Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the survey department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Establish and maintain efficient workflows, enforcing compliance with industry standards and company policies.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and resources to meet or exceed financial and performance objectives.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of all survey projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Manage project documentation, proposals, and contracts, maintaining strong client relationships and clear communication.
- Provide technical guidance on complex survey-related activities, including ALTA surveys, boundary analysis, and construction staking.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of survey professionals, promoting career growth and skill development.
- Organize and supervise survey crews, technicians, and office staff, ensuring productivity and high morale.
- Promote a collaborative work environment that values trust, professionalism, and open communication.
Quality Assurance and Technology:
- Uphold quality control standards across all survey activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated on industry trends, practices, and technologies to enhance department capabilities.
Client and Business Development:
- Foster strong relationships with clients, addressing concerns and ensuring their satisfaction with deliverables.
- Support business development efforts by participating in client presentations, proposal preparation, and cross-marketing opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Professional Surveyor License (RPLS, PLS, PSM) required, with multi-state licensure preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8–10 years in the surveying industry, with proven leadership and project management experience.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.
- Proficiency in survey software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center) and understanding of survey methodologies.
- Expertise in boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, construction staking, and legal document interpretation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong client-facing capabilities.
