Position Summary:

The TPPC Special Inspector's primary responsibility is to conduct weekly onsite TPPC inspections throughout NYC and provide weekly reports throughout the construction duration. Inspectors will confirm the project’s General Contractor’s compliance to the project-specific Tenant Protection Plan as filed with the Department of Buildings. The ideal candidate should establish and uphold professional working relationships with General Contractor’s site personnel, subcontractors, and the general public.


Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly review and proofread and understand the project-specific DOB-approved Tenant Protection Plan’s requirements.
  • Generate and submit reports using company standard checklists via mobile devices, incorporating essential details such as specific compliance with the project’s Tenant Protection Plan.
  • Validate contractor compliance with related codes, regulations, specifications, plans, sketches, and other relevant documentation.
  • Occasional paid overtime (evenings and/or weekends) is necessary.


Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • 2 years on site, commercial construction experience in New York City.
  • Previous experience as a Construction Site Safety Inspector, or any of the following, Site Safety Director, Assistant Construction Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, Assistant Construction Project Manager, or Construction Project Manager.
  • International Code Council (ICC) certifications a plus (preferable but not required).
  • NYC scaffold certification.
  • OSHA 10 HR certificate minimum.
  • Superior Communication skills both written & verbal. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, given the need to collaborate with General Contractors, and other stakeholders in the construction process.
  • Proficiency in using Mobile Devices, PCs, including software such as Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Excel, is essential for effective documentation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with the New York City Department of Building codes and the Building Information System (BIS & DOBNOW) websites is beneficial, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements in the construction field.


Customer Service:

Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high-volume production environment. Maintains the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude either verbally or written communication.


Work Environment:

The work environment for this position involves a dynamic and active setting within the construction industry. It encompasses 100% fieldwork, necessitating a versatile approach. The individual will be exposed to various construction sites across all boroughs of New York City, requiring adaptability to different project conditions and environments.

  • Hourly Salary Range: $25.00-$35.00 USD.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Fieldwork will involve physical activities such as walking, climbing scaffolding, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and navigating active construction sites.
  • The employee should be comfortable with the practical aspects of the construction process, including mandatory use of Personal Protection Equipment, interaction with construction personnel and the inspection of diverse scopes of work.
  • The employee is required to travel to various construction projects each workday throughout the 5 boroughs of NYC, utilizing NYC mass transit, climb stairs & scaffolding (both indoors & outdoors). required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time in-person position, and the hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.


Travel:

Daily Travel to multiple construction sites is expected for this position throughout the five boroughs of NYC. Travel via mass transit between job sites is reimbursable. Punctuality for scheduled inspections & witness testing is essential to this position. Associate may be required to attend meetings at the discretion of management and/or if it is project related.
