Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities:
- Works under the general guidance and direction of a Senior Construction Inspector or a Resident Engineer.
- Reviews field staking and makes revisions within scope of authority.
- Verifies levels, alignment, and elevation of installation using surveyor’s level.
- Coordinates activities and schedules with utility companies, contractors, property owners, and other agencies.
- Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures and materials conform to plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Records quantities of material received.
- Examines quality/workmanship of finished installations for conformity to industry standards.
- Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of installation.
- Maintains daily reports of construction activities and performs filing duties.
- Takes progress photos of the construction activities.
- Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into as-built drawings.
- Performs work in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Handles complaints either personally or by referring to the Resident Engineer.
- Might be responsible for an entire project or may focus on one specific project area.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
- Preferably one year of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Legal citizenship or permanent residency.
- Obtain “Documentation of Contract Quantities” Certificate after one year of experience.
- Knowledge in industry Standards and Specifications for different agencies.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements: personal and workers’ safety.
- Knowledge of DOT Standards and Erosion Control Measures for City and State Transportation Departments.
- Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public.
- Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Skill in applying material testing procedures.
- Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain inspection field and office data.
- Ability to effectively communicate technical information, orally and in writing, in a professional manner to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, governmental agency representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to operate personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Working Conditions:
- IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with an acceptable driver's record.
- Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
- Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
- Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
- Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
- Usually works in outside weather conditions.
