Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for turbo expander assemblies, specifically focusing on the lube oil and seal gas systems. This position is tasked with ensuring that all design efforts meet or exceed company safety standards and comply with both local and global engineering guidelines. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of mechanical design, system integration, and fluid dynamics, as well as strong proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and adherence to industry standards such as ASME, API, and ANSI.

The System Engineer will also be responsible for creating technical deliverables, conducting design reviews, and collaborating with the project management and engineering teams to meet project deadlines. This role will support fabrication, testing, and commissioning efforts, as well as capitalize on previous projects' knowledge to optimize future designs.

Responsibilities:
  • Design & Documentation:

    • Create and review submittal drawings such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Interface Control Documents (ICD), and General Arrangement Drawings (GAD) for lube oil systems, seal gas systems, and related rotating equipment.
    • Develop system assembly drawings, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and support material, heat, and energy balances to guide the development of these systems.
    • Size and select main system components, including equipment such as pumps, valves, relief valves, heat exchangers, accumulators, and flow meters.
  • Technical & Project Involvement:

    • Work closely with the project management team to ensure system designs align with customer specifications, industry standards, and project goals.
    • Participate in and lead design reviews, including Process Design Basis (PDB) meetings, PFD reviews, P&ID reviews, and Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) assessments.
    • Assist in the evaluation of technical offers for key equipment and provide insights into material selection and mechanical design decisions.
  • Support in Fabrication & Testing:

    • Provide technical support to the shop during the fabrication phase to ensure systems are built according to design specifications and quality standards.
    • Participate in plant commissioning, system start-up, and performance testing to ensure successful project execution and operator training.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during commissioning or start-up, collaborating with the commissioning and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of systems.
  • Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing:

    • Leverage experience from previous projects and commissioning issues to implement improvements in system design and development.
    • Actively contribute to local and global Engineering & Construction (E&C) development efforts by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and innovative design solutions.
    • Stay up to date on advancements in industry standards, mechanical design, and system engineering to continuously improve system designs.
  • Additional Responsibilities:

    • Perform other tasks and participate in special projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager or as business needs arise.
    • May occasionally be required to travel to job sites for system commissioning and operator training.
Educational Requirements:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience in turbo-expander systems engineering, rotating equipment design, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in lube oil systems, seal gas systems, and rotating equipment such as compressors, gas turbines, and blowers is required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, and related industry standards is essential.
Key Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, mechanical design, and system integration.
  • Proficient in technical software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD, with the ability to create detailed technical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Experience in material selection, instrumentation and controls, and designing systems that meet specific customer requirements.
  • Ability to assess risk and safety aspects during system design and to participate in safety assessments such as HAZOP.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in a manufacturing and commissioning environment.
  • Excellent technical writing ability, with the capacity to generate detailed reports supported by technical data and references.
  • Capable of working independently, meeting deadlines, and handling multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience in a multicultural work environment is an asset.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feel equipment and materials.
  • Capable of occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to have close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for detailed technical work.
Competencies:
  • Achievement Motivation: Consistently strives to meet project objectives and exceed company expectations.
  • Communicating Effectively: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Focused on meeting customer specifications and addressing their technical needs.
  • Problem Solving & Analytical Thinking: Capable of identifying and resolving issues efficiently, with strong attention to detail.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Works well in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to collective goals and supporting colleagues as needed.
