Overview

Corrections Services Specialists provide direct supervision of Incarcerated Individuals in a correctional facility. In this role, you'll help prepare for their future release back to the community when eligible. Corrections Service Specialists work closely with local probation offices, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other state agencies to get services for incarcerated individuals. You will also make referrals for programming and classifications for incarcerated individuals.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a correctional facility or field office. Significant interaction with potentially dangerous correctional clients is involved. Evening, weekend, and alternating shift duty may be required to provide necessary services or emergency coverage. Some field travel may be necessary, for which private means of transportation is required. Work-related court appearances may be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years or more as a CSS I.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and experience in the delivery of casework, planning, and evaluation of offenders in a correctional setting.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion, or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Conviction History Requirements: Candidates who have any felony conviction record or who, within the past five (5) years, have been placed under supervision or sanctioned for a misdemeanor conviction must receive a waiver from the Commissioner of Corrections in order to be considered for employment.
