Radiology/Mammography Technician Lead

The Radiology/Mammography Technician Lead is responsible for all testing performed by staff technologists in compliance with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) Annual Inspection.
POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:General X-Ray:
- Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others who can understand service requirements.
- Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
Mammography:
- Competently performs primary screening at the assigned facility.
- Reviews the patient's medical record to obtain necessary clinical information, including patient history, lab results, and physician orders, and obtains each patient's breast health history.
- Performs scans and identifies breast anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal, to establish initial evaluation of images. Adapts imaging techniques to improve screening quality.
- Evaluates the mammographic image for positioning, technique, artifacts, and compression, and repeats images as necessary. Compares requisitions to physician orders to ensure ordered exam accuracy.
Both:
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, explaining treatment, and answering questions.
- Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Minimizes radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, beam-restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
- Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, and making necessary adjustments.
- Documents patient care services by charting patient and department records and verifying corresponding reports.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Lead:
- Maintains records following various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system.
- Serves as a technical resource, role model, and preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system. Assists with accreditation efforts.
- Assists with all IT functions, including PACS and Radiology software.
- Establishes IT connectivity and training for new staff.
- Ensures all essential patient information and communication is documented as required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Advanced training beyond High School includes completing an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
Experience: At least one year of radiology work experience and some clerical/office skills preferred.
Expertise: Typing, filing, attention to detail, action-oriented, dependability, self-management, and following assigned directives are essential.
Language: Comprehend and use the primary English language, both written and spoken, to communicate information and ideals.
Hours of Work: Hours scheduled for maximum patient access.
Travel: May vary based on Organizational need.
