Position Summary

The Jr. Counselor co-leads, supports, and motivates campers throughout their camp experience. They assist camp staff in planning camp events, leading group events, and ensuring campers have a safe and memorable camp experience. This role provides older Girl Scouts with a chance to learn and grow within Girl Scouts while developing communication and leadership skills in a supportive environment.

El Ranchito Day Camp

Tucked away in Long Beach, El Ranchito encourages safe risk-taking and promotes goal setting. Activities include archery, low ropes, and a climbing tower, with daily exposure to diverse weather conditions and local wildlife.

• Assist in direction, supervision, and organization of campers to meet intended outcomes.
  • Apply youth development principles through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, and youth empowerment.
  • Ensure proper supervision and implement safety guidelines.
• Develop and implement program experiences and activities for campers.
  • Co-lead and assist in teaching activities and participate in all program areas with camp staff.
• Maintain health and safety standards for all activities.
  • Monitor camper wellbeing and report health needs to staff.
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
• Act as a role model to campers and staff.
  • Follow and uphold safety and security rules and procedures.
• Participate in delivering evening programs, special events, and camp functions.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist during camper arrival and departure.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Completed CIT 1 and CIT 2 programs at a GSGLA Camp.
• Entering 12th grade in 2024-2025 school year.
• Valid work permit, available for 10 weeks of camp, and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and endure prolonged standing, bending, and stretching.

• Comply with state-mandated reporter training.
• Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other assigned activities.

Employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to legal exemptions. new hires must be fully vaccinated upon hire.
